how to clean air filter

S&B is also an oil type filter aka same as K&N type. of course they say not to use air. did you read my post? it is an oil based filter aka uses fabric not paper.

HKS and other cheap foam filters dont have cleaning instructions because theyre...foam...and the elements generaly cost around $10 (afaik HKS is $11 but also fails at filtering).

anyway, not worth it to argue with you that paper>fabric. but, rock>scissors.

Actually, using a vacuum on the outside of the filter is perfectly fine, and some manufacturers even recommend it. The problem with compressed air is not the volume of air, it is the concentration of it. That is what causes the damage.

yes, Apexi is a lifetime filter, but as we all know, some lifetimes, are much shorter than others.

Nope. Your mate is wrong (in NSW anyway). An oiled airfilter will pose no fire danger. Its enclosed in a secure box (airbox) and, as its only light oil, will not combust under hot conditions.

I would bet my left nut that the airbox would burn before the filter.
