Smile New X3

Update: (Found the search function :-) ) Apparently there are two wrenches and one screwdriver and so its back to the dealer to get the missing item.

Hi

I just joined the forum after taking delivery of my first BMW ever, the X3 in black. I have'nt even had a chance to read the manual yet but will get to that eventually.

I'm sure this forum will answer many of my questions over the next few months/years but here is one to get things going. Opening up the little cubby holes in the back and found a little tool kit on the left side. There seems to be a missing wrench. I've got three things in there but there seems to be a place for another wrench. Can someone let me and i'll get back to the dealer ASAP.

Thanks again

Samer

I'm missing something in the tool kit slot as well. I think that there might be something in there that customs may remove when the car arrives in the states (I didn't check what tools were in there when I picked up the car for european delivery, so I can't say if something was ever removed after redelivery), or perhaps there never was any tool in that slot in the first place.

No offence but the X3 is not a mini-van. I'm not paying that much money for a mini-van or am I?

Kinda hard to call an X3 a mini van after doing 0- 60 in 6 seconds. I always enjoy blowing the snot nosed little rice burner crowd off the line when they are trying to cut you off.

Sorry not very mature, but not a mini van either, Lol.

6 seconds doesn't seem plausible in an X3. . That's Toyota RAV4 V6 territory.

I could be a half second off because watching a stop watch and the road is a little tough.

Now if you are telling me a RAV or Forester can do that. I find that hard to bellieve.

The RAV4 with the V6 is quick in a straight line. Consumer Reports clocked 6.7 seconds. Forester XT is 7.4. X3 in the same test is 7.9 seconds.

X3 wins in the handling tests. It also has better brakes. The X3 is faster than the RAV4 in the trailer pulling test too.

if CR tested a XT and got 7.4 they should look for a different driver....

no question about handling...but why would that be questioned...it's a BMW....

i know nothing about the Rav...but i have driven an XT (manual) enough times to know its one fast SUV.... and low 6's are not a problem....keep in mind however it feels ike your driving a tin can....

Car and Driver got 6.3 seconds.

http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtest...v-6-page3.html

No surprise given the huge 3.5 litre 268hp V6. I've driven that motor in the Avalon and it is frankly, very very quick and surprisingly frugal (netting 34mpg hwy in the Avalon)

C/D also got a 0-60mph run in the Forester XT in 5.9 secs.

CR always gets lousy numbers because they have incompetent test drivers. I remember they tested a X5 3.0i and got like 10.5 secs.

They test the cars like their readers would drive them.

We liked the Forrester. Not a luxury car, but quite competent and pleasant to drive.

Hmmm if BMW doesnt fix my tranny correctly maybe I should get a RAV and save 10k. Then simply dump 5k into beefing up the suspension.

This thread makes me feel like a bought a cool blue, white, and black emblem status symbol.

Even my wife said yesterday, "For the car of your dreams this thing sure has a lot of problems".

Well, ive had the car for a week now with 170km on the clock and i found out what people have been talking about re the transmission. This thing does'nt know which gear to choose in the 1-2-3 range whether upshifting or downshifting. And it has no sense of coasting ability, take your foot off the gas before a red light in the distance and you run the risk of being rear ended as the car almost grinds to a complete crawl. So i called the dealer and its been taken back this afternoon (they came and picked it up and left a 321xi). At first they talked about an adaptive transmission learning time but coasting has nothing to do with learning.

So we'll see what happens.

BTW

X3 with auto+steptronic.

Sounds like it is shifting as if Hill Descent Control is stuck on. -- Did it happen when you got below 35 km/h ?

Does that happen in Sport program, Drive program or both?
