OT: thank God for german engineering

so, i know this is off topic, but emotions are on high and just thought i would spill...

i have this wonderful little lady that i care about ever so dearly..she drives a VW bug. when they bought the car, i had my bimmer and told them that the germans have it going on and she will be just fine in that car. so she's on her way home down a somewhat busy highway, and an 18 wheel tractor trailer decides not to yeild and smashes the HELL out of the front end. the VW flips, rolls, and comes to a stop a few ten feet later. by the time i got there, she was out of the car on a stretcher goin into the back of the EMS car. i went over to the car and the front end was basically gone, what was left of the dash was sitting in the passenger seat and there was no glass left at all. i started talkin to the guys who pulled her out and they said she was lucky to be alive.."that german engineering is amazing"-EMS tech..

so we're at the hospital now, wating to see whats happening. shes in x-ray, hopefully shes alright and nothings broken. her dad just came up to me, grabbed my should and told me ver batem.."you were right, thank God for german engineering"...

whatever your religious views may be, just help me hope that everything is alright.

thanks guys

Bless you and your little lady. Hope everything is alright.

I got scared though when you said VW bug as those things are made in Mexico and have horrible reliability ratings. But in the end, it doesn't matter, it's all fate and the luck of the draw. Best of everything...

nah..couldn't get close enough to him. but get this, after he hit her, he got out, asked if she was alrigth and then proceeded to yell at her because she was obviously the reason he neglected to yield..(sarcasm).

needless to say, i was a little angry

Uh, no, you really don't....

Euro NCAP tested the E36. Lets just say it wasn't one of their greatest.......

Hell, it was miserable. Like 1.5 stars IIRC.

Is this true? Any links for info?

I like reading the accidents section (letters) of BMW Magazine. They had one which had an e46 coupe getting smashed on the freeway by a rig. Two passengers, the car was a horrible mess, both people walked out with no injuries. The EMTs were dumbfounded. That couple said they ordered another e46 coupe that week.

Pirate, what exactly does a star with a slash through it mean, as the E36 got 1 star, and another one with a red slash in it. Figured maybe you'd know.

Nope, identical body sir. Only difference is engine and tranny. FYI, all crash tests, by all organizations, test one vehicle from a model line.

Ah yes, you are correct. I forgot they shoehorned those hamster wheels into "saloon" versions that we saw as coupes.

Oops.

It's late.....
