E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

No surprises there. I figured there was going to be package and option price consistency. Didn't expect a lower value for Premium Hi-Fi.

Ooh boy, these options kill.

Assuming I could swing a 128i, it would be 33,475 w/o destination.

This includes:

Base - 29,375
Step - 1,275
Sport - 1,000
Htd. Seats - 500
Paint - 475
Xenon - 850 (?)

On the 135i side of things, we're looking at 37,925 w/o destination.

Base - 35,675
Step - 1,275
Htd. Seats - 500
Paint - 475

Pretty expensive little car, but it does fill the void of the e46 now that all BMW's have moved upmarket about 5,000 each. 5 series are now basing 44-45k range. I remember when they based at 37-38k.

$400 for a USB & Ipod adapter is so wrong. That crap should be standard, like it is on a Civic Si.

Wouldn't be so bad if it worked as advertised. Which it doesn't...

I'm purchasing a new iPod just for the priviledge of enjoying the option I paid for... $250 won't break the bank, but it's the time and effort spent to figure it out that bothers me.

nothing to it...these prices are set like this to benefit BMW...not us. They would have made all these upgrades as cheap as the 3....then the sales on the 3 would go down dramatically....

Thats life...shame...with the problems I am having i might get a stripped 128

My wife wants a 135i and well I do all so.

Looking at an Alpine White 135i.

Base 34,900
Sports pack 1,000
Leather 1,450 (not a big fan of leatherette)
Dest. 775

Total $38,125

Sports pack includes power seats, right? At least the brochure says so.

We'll Pass on the idrive and sat nav, my wife and I have grown to hate the idrive/nav in my 530i. In my opinion its rubbish, plus we have to keep getting idrive updates.

But am going to wait, so I can pick one up at or a little over invoice. We won't need it until the end of next year.

Read closer. Last brochure I saw said that the Sport pkg includes power seats only if you also have the Premium pkg, otherwise it is manual "Sport Seats" for you.

What are the issues with the BMW USB kit? Just curious.

EDIT: OK, so I had listed a whole bunch of deficiencies, but these were all from the first-gen "iPod your BMW". Apparently the newer iPod/USB option is much better. Check this out: http://www.bmwcca.org/node/7241

Cool thanks man, looks like its another $995 power option, or what ever it is hard to read the scan.

Just so we're clear, my Scion tC comes standard (as of MY07) with a Pioneer iPod stereo that is basically a head-unit interface for the ipod. None of this watered-down, "you interact with it like it's a cd-changer" crap. There are limitations, e.g., I can't browse by genre, but other than that I have full access to view/browse/play by Artist,Album,Playlist,Song, and there are no limits on # of playlists or anything (although I can only get my headunit to display up to 32chars of text).

That being said, I haven't encountered any other brands that get the iPod integration as well as Scion. Haven't seen a Honda with it though.

Looks like my optioned 135i is $5,005 less than the same optioned 335i coupe.

Sports pack, leather, power seats, Dest fee.

$39,120 135i

$44,125 335i coupe

$5,005 diff.

Is the little extra room worth the $5,005.00

That depends on if you are a pessimist or an optimist. Do you see the 135 as having a little less room, or the 335 as having a little too much fat?

Just to clear things up, I have the factory-installed, aka latest and greatest, 6FL option.

Known problems with it:
- random switching to FM radio
- power module problem (not enough juice for certain iPods)
- lack of compatibility with certain iPod models

BMW fixes for the above:
- SW upgrade (Progman v. 27.1)
- MULF2 module upgrade
- iPod cable upgrade

After all the fixes, it still doesn't work correctly with all the iPod models:
- 1st gen Nano doesn't play both stereo channels (you need separate audio cable)
- 4th gen Photo doesn't charge (at all)

BMW advertises that all iPod models with a dock connector should work, but obviously that's not the case. All told, I lost about a week with the car in service. Now, the service guys were dilligent, but in the end I still have to shell out money and buy a new iPod...

If none of this would have happened, I'd be pretty happy with it, the integration is good. I don't have NAV, but still get a decent display of the title, I can browse by playlist, artist, song etc.
