Z3 Coupe 3.0 rear diff identifying marks?

Hi all,

New to the forum. Wow!

Impressive knowledgebase here!

I've been working on cars since 10 or so helping my dad fix cars ranging from Fiat 128 Spyders to Toyota Pickups.

I have a newbie question if you will. I did a search, but couldn't find anything that relates to my question.

How do you tell what type of rear diff you have installed in your Coupe. What ratio? LSD? etc. Besides looking at the stamped number and doing a search in the ETK CD. Which I don't have yet. I just ordered my TIS CD.

Another question, on e46 330ci/i, the exhaust system on those cars, would it fit a Coupe? I haven't had a chance to look under a 330ci/i, but I've been under my Coupe...

Thanks a bunch!

First off, I don't know what a 330 exhaust looks like but I'll bet money it won't fit your Coupe (even some exhausts made for 3.0 Coupes don't fit, ask AndyM).

There were no optional rear axle ratios so whatever was standard equipment would be fitted to your car. Look in the OM.

I know the 3.0 with automatic transmission was a 3.46:1 Torsen, as several people have put them in their S-54 M Coupe/Rdstr to replace the 3.15:1.

The diff ratio is printed on a sticker/bar code on the top of the diff housing. You might be able to read it with a dental mirror with the car jacked up. It will not be easy though.

Jon, You are correct. I was about to post the same.
3.07:1 for the Z3 coupe.
