E70 tow hitch & rear camera operation

Hello

I just found this great site!!

I have a new model X5 diesel & I'm very happy with it. I forgot all about needing a tow hitch until after I ordered it so its been 6 months of happy driving & now I have a BMW tow hitch installed.

Question: Before the car was re programmed & the hitch installed my rear parking camera worked beautifully. Now it just shows me a aerial picture of an X5 with the sensors 'lights' instead of the real camera picture.

What has happened here??

You will have to go back into idrive and change the settings. The dealer probably reset them them playing around with it after the install.

Yes, as denaliman suggests you have to use the iDrive to change your setting to use the camera.

I was happy to find I now had "trailer hitch zoom" as an option which makes lining up a lot easier. I don't think it was there before.

Thanks guys!

All done - I was worried I'd lost that function which has been very handy..

Was "trailer hitch zoom" something the dealer had to enable or something you could do yourself?

Once in reverse (& rear camera on screen) press the iDrive wheel & you will see a bunch of options to choose from. The last option on mine is 'Trailer hitch zoom'.

Dealer enabled. They re-program the computer at the end of the install.

Can you post photos of your hitch and bumper? I am ordering an OEM trailer hitch for an '08 and was curious as to the look of it? Can't find one anywhere showing the full rear of the vehicle with the hitch.

Here you go.

If you can ask the dealer to spray the muffler with high heat flat black paint when they have the apron off for the install. It will blend in nicely.

I go dirt bike riding most weekends so I use my tow hitch to drag around a trailer & a couple of KTM's.
