Red face 2008 X5 USB IPOD Question

I just took delivery of a moroco blue 3.0si X5 with the USB/mini jack connector.
The I-drive in the USB mode doesn't seem to see the IPOD.
I tried plugging in both the USB and mini plugs but nada.
I must be doing something wrong.
Just love this vehicle. Moved up from an X3.
FYI , yes the bluetooth does see my address book from Verizon pearl blackberry.

What kind of iPod do you have? Certain models work and others don't. I just got an 80 GB Classic and plugged it into my 2008 X5 yesterday, and everything worked perfect on the iDrive. However my 2nd generation 15 GB iPod did not work probably because it was firewire instead of USB.
