Stuck oil level sender?

My wife's 3.0 oil level got down to the add line so the Check Engine Oil Level warning appeared. I added a quart, but the warning won't go away. Is there some double-secret procedure to clear the warning or is the dang sending unit just stuck? I've experienced a number of problems with coolant level senders on other BMWs but never an oil level sender. Is this a common failure in the M62 engine?

Did you add two quarts? If it gets low enough for the light, you may need to add more than one.

I've never heard of any issues with the sending unit.

I initially added a quart, which brought the level to about 80% of the way between the low and the full marks on the dipstick. That makes sense because the gap represents about 1.1 quarts. Then I filled it the rest of the way, but still no luck.

Call the dealer. Once it hit the bottom level on the dipstick, the light should have gone off.
