Random and unfounded opinion, or do you care for sharing your experience or lack of with us?

I am a big fan of the M1 and owned an orange/red one like above for a couple years in the early eighties. I find the looks to be spectacular and still fresh even today. The photo above from very low angle, and then a reflection that exaggerates the low angle, are not too complimentary. I found the lines to be taught and purposeful.

On the road the steering was as good as any car I have driven since. It was nicely weighted and more precise than anything I've experienced. The gearshift was also very accurate, and nicely notchy; no vagueness despite the long linkage to the transaxle out back. The brakes were excellent although over the course of some hard laps at Laguna Seca I did find the point where they would fade (different pads and fluid would fix that).

It was blast on the road although the stock set up allowed too much air under it and it got quite light above 140. I drove it from SF to LA one time and covered 400 miles in four hours. Navigator armed with binoculars I might add.

Eventually it seemed there would always be newer and faster so I switched to playing with older cars. Never the less I still miss the day-glow ticket-me-orange M1. Cheers, George
