Bought a 2005 X3, does it have bluetooth?

Hi,
I just bought a 2005 X3 3.0i. It supposedly has the premium package and bluetooth. I just can't seem to get the bluetooth working. The phone can't find the car, but none of the bluetooth buttons work (the guy talking, R/T, the SOS button). How can I tell if I have bluetooth or not? The car did come with a sheet that tells me the passkey, so at least I have hope! Before taking it to the dealer, any tips on how to get bluetooth working?

If you've got the 4 digit PIN then you probably have Bluetooth. Others have had problems with it intermittently going out. I believe the procedure is to pull the connector off for maybe 30 seconds and then reconnect it, with the key out of the ignition, of course. The Bluetooth module is located in the left rear behind the removable cover. It's connector is on the front side. It's covered under warranty. I believe.

I recommend searching the forum here first for more details and pics before proceding to try and fix it.

BTW, you may find this manual useful if you have Voice Command. Only the phone commands work.

The '05s do come with Bluetooth if equipped with BMW Assist. You do need to program it all first.

(1) Well, not quite all. Look at the assembly date. The first month (listed as 04/09 for Sept 2004) or so did not have functional BT. (And in case others are reading this, these statements apply to US-bound X3's only.)

(2) Then look for the TCU. Maybe it was removed by the previous owner??

(3) If you are OK by (1) and (2), have the dealer check the programming.

Absolutely silly for the previous owner to remove the TCU...but stranger things have happened.

If you purchased this vehicle from a dealer you should return it...as it is missing a required component. Especially if it is a CPO.

The attached SIB should lay every thing out regarding pairing and or your vehicles born on date for compatibility (SEP 04).

TCUs do burn out...I had one replaced on my 06 330i and 05 X3 under warranty...newer models are much more durable. Also, you must use a compatible bluetooth enabled phone.
