Wood Color Choice
Hi everyone. Getting ready to order my second X3. I know lots of pros and cons on the car, though I just love it.
I will be ordering the Silver Gray Metallic with the gray nevada leather. In my currnet car I have the dark wood and am thinking of changing to the grey poplar wood. Has anyone see it yet, and even better do you know how it looks with the gray leather? Thanks! |

I think aluminium trim would work very well with the gray leather and give it a modern feel. It is available as a Priority one option, which means you have to order and specify it (dealers cannot order to put on their lots). Otherwise, gray poplar wood trim is a cool choice as well. I've seen it on the 335i coupe in person and it pretty much works with any color interior.

I have the gray interior in my 07 X3 and I went with the dark poplar and I was torn but when I saw the cars the same day I was surprised at how close they looked. I could have gone either way.

We ordered the Sand Beige/Nevada Black leather interior with the Gray Poplar trim (should take delivery within 2 weeks). This combo is in the current X3 catalog and the gray "wood" looks sweet next to the black parts of the interior. I'm sure it would look just as good with the gray interior.

I guess it would depend if you want various shades of gray throughout your interior, or a slight contrast with the dark ash. I think both would look good, but personally I would choose the dark ash, or as AzN stated, order it with the Priority one aluminum option.

Here's another view of how the two look like. Dammit, it looks like European models finally get an interior tailgate release switch on the dash.

I thought the aluminum would look better than that. I think that would be my last choice now that I see it with the gray interior.

It's probably because the configurator isn't super-detailed. the OP can do a search since a number of members did get the Priority One option. I agree.....it looks a lot like the standard Titanium matte trim that comes on EU cars. Wood is not desirable across the pond.

Which button would that be?

One of the ones in the centre row of buttons, where we would have our DSC, TPMS, and HDC buttons. IIRC, up until now, if you had all options, there'd be a blank space next to the passenger heated seat switch. That space appears to be filled in the picture.......and their configurator tends to be very accurate on adding/subtracting buttons.

I have the grey poplar and I love it. I get major compliments from strangers and friends.
I had the aluminum on my last X. The poplar looks much richer.

Sorry, no gray leather but here's what gray poplar looks like up close. It shows even more depth when the sun hits it.

The wood is perhaps 2 mm thick and then of course has a clear protective finish. So I guess if you touch it you are not literally touching the wood, but if you touch the door, you are not touching metal, either...just the paint.
