Slightly off topic, but I find it interesting that some people make car purchases like some people buy clothes.....for whatever reason, after a short time, they exchange it for something else.

The shortest time that I ever owned a vehicle was when I purchased a 1993 Jeep Cherokee(new) for the specific purpose of towing a boat. After 1 1/2 years of owning the worst and only American designed vehicle that I've ever purchased, I sold the boat and promptly got rid of the Jeep since it no longer had a purpose.

I guess the previous owner of the X3 that you're interested in gave his purchase less thought than when I go and out and buy a tie....

Maybe you should wait a month or 2....you might be able to get a great deal on an X5..

With those options, the original MSRP was $42,275, invoice $38,920, with others paying around $41,559 (according to Edmunds.com). If they are asking $40,500 with a used title, they are a little high. Even at invoice, you are probably paying too much for a "used" vehicle. But with only 500 miles on it, other than title you can hardly call it used.
I would offer $37-38K and see where it goes from there.

Oh...Auto or Manual?

Probably read our threads, Lol Sorry couldn't resist.

Go to some other dealers and ask for a brand new one with the same options.

There are 6 or 7 in the MD-DC Metro area that I can name off the top of my head.

Then compare those to the spread sheet provided as a sticky as a baseline.

BMW X3 (like many mfg's) sales are way down right now. It's a buyers market with cars.

I'd shoot for invoice or even less. That may not be doable, depending on how much the dealer has into the car. If they won't bite, shake hands and go shop a new one.

You can get a European Delivery X3 (Munich pick up) for less than USA invoice.

A used BMW with 500 miles doesn't qualify for several sales programs. It can't be a CPO.

I doubt it qualifies for the BMW CCA rebate. I have no idea if it qualifies for the subvented lease rates you can get with a new X3. If it doesn't and you are leasing, a new X3 will cost far less.

If you do end up with a deal you want, insist on seeing the service history for the car. If it has been in for any sort of issues, run away as fast as you can. X3s are great cars, but when they have problems they can be a nightmare.

As an FYI, I paid about $1000 more than that for a new one with 3 miles on it, Premium Pack, Sport Activity Package, Heated Seats, with Sirius to be added (next week along with the alarm - I miss my beeps when I lock too much).

The previous owner and his wife drove it over some rough roads and potholed streets and she made him turn it back in for a smoother riding X5! IMHO $40.5K is too much. Try $35K. Be sure to take it for a LONG test ride to make sure there are no "issues".
