Switch, what's it for?? 86' 528e

This push button switch (black w/ slight red trim seen when button is 'out') is found just right of the steering column, on the kick panel. It has a red and a red & green striped wires attached." E-T-A Thermatic , 124 F10 - P50 383001 BMW".
Nothing happens when I push it in or out (on/off), could be broken??? Thanks for any info.

That is your electric windows breaker. If you leave it unplugged your windows won't work (ask me how I know! ) It is there in case of an electrical system (windows) overload, my guess is a stuck motor or something around that area.
