Looking for a new X3 with manual? Found one

I know I'm not supposed to be advertising for anyone, but today I dropped by Richmond BMW because I had some time to kill and wanted to sit in the 1. They had a new '08 X3 sport with manual transmission! Now that's something you don't see everyday. It had something along the lines of sport, manual, sat nav, xenons, and more (hence the hefty price tag). So yea, if you're not too far away from them and want to test drive a manual that's not already owned by a Bimmerfest member, here's your chance

Thanks Azn......I am asking for an MT as a replacement based on comments made here. A real drive would be even better.

Thanks,

EE

Out of curiosity, what's the latest news with you and trying to lemon your X3? (PM if you'd like)

Guess we'll all find out after the 30'th of this month. BTW its in the shop for the 15'th time since I have owned it, from Feb of 07. I really get to drive a lot of different BMW's as a result.

So I now have a really good feel of how a GOOD BMW is supposed to drive.

Haven't had the oppurtunity for an MT or X5 yet. All the 3 and 5 series though.

Ev and Az,
Have 3K+ on my 08 X3 6M and do I love that machine. The CDV took some getting used to but now all is fine. Little tip: I use 1-3-5 gears around town even though it's somewhat hilly driving. I find that torquey 3.0L has plenty of poop for me to skip 3&4 unless I get the urge to buggie. Ev, I hope all works out for you; I can't imagine how I'd feel if that shoe were on my foot.
Best of luck,
bobkap

Thanks Bob,

I am just looking forward to some closure on this.

It has been dragging on for over a year at this point. And I have yet to hear the same level of dissatisfaction from MT owners as GM6 AT ( 07 --08 ) owners.

I do hope you will be able to join us in the 'satisfied MT owner group.'

So far our X3 is the most reliable BMW out of the four we've owned. We've yet to own a BMW that was completely trouble free, but this one is very close. 7 months after delivery and we are still at zero trips to the dealer.

We've had our MT for 6 weeks and put a little over 2K miles on it so far and we absolutely love it! Other than the drilled bumper, no [mfr] problems to date (*knocks wood*). I hope you too can get/be happy with the MT, Ev.

My head is already made up (no cracks) to buy an mt as we have no automatics in our family and my wife has never driven one. But our search to test drive a 2008 mt has been a failure. One dealer finally looked up the inventories of all the dealers west of Denver and said there are no manuals. The same dealer had never heard of Bimmerfest and the automatic problems. He also tried to tell me the X3 did not come with mt anymore as did another dealer the week before. I assume they are not totally stupid and were just hoping I was a rookie old man they could snow. The same problem is occuring to test a 1 series manual.
What I will never understand is that they will have up to 28 X3's in stock but not one manual. I do know they dropped the manual from the X5 3.0 when they went to the 260hp motor. Too much of a hot rod against the V8 I guess. Still looking!

We easily found a 1 series with a manual...

Well, as I said in the thread title, I saw one at Richmond BMW, a forum sponsor.

The only thing I don't like about it is the colour. Silver Gray is so . And it's heavy on options, including sat nav and sport. It stickers somewhere north of $48k, although I dunno if its still there. I'm likely going to pay them a visit later next week to see the 1, so I'll see if its still there.

Happy MT owner here

+1
I'm a happy 6-spd manual owner here on my 2006 X3 3.0i. I found it CPO at BMW of Bellevue and closed the deal the same day. They're hard to come by, but this was perfect: sport, premium, xenons, upgraded stereo and NO nav and NO automatic.
I've had no issues with it and always find myself looking for excuses to go driving!

Based on all of the feedback from this forum, I'm going with a friend to buy a 2006 CPO 5-spd auto X3 tomorrow. He was scared off of buying a 2008 auto even though he could afford to buy new without issues.

He'll be much happier with the MT. I'll save you the rest --you have heard it before.

Had I known about this website prior to buying my current Lemon (15 times in the shop) I would have bought an MT CPO 06.

Glad to hear you are a happy owner.

I keep hearing positive feedback on the MT's which leads me to believe my request is well founded.

Ev,
Colsure hell; you're headed toward automotive ecstasy via that beautiful 6M. Just be a little patient with that damn CDV and the clutch break-in period and the haunting 6A nightmares will disappear like the mist before the morning sun. You'll luuuuv the break assist feature that holds the car on an incline for 2 seconds thus avoiding roll-back, over-revving or stalls.

Get a MT on an ED like I did. Great Gearbox but it took a little learning to make a smooth engagement.

Cheers

I think it will be fun if I can get one.

I had a 924S with a racing clutch that took some work as well as some other racers.
