This includes partial NYC entering for about 1-2 miles and local roads 4-5 miles. I will not drive it this way all the time, just trying to push mpg to the limit

Our 08 3.0 si is returning about 12 mpg overall now at about 1700 miles. We have not taken it on a trip, but in highway driving around town it has been returning about 20 mpg. Unfortunately, most of the time the car is driven 6 miles back and forth to work in DC traffic, true stop and go. I suspect in this driving it is only returning about 10 mpg since with every tank there are about 40-50 miles of highway driving at 18-20 mpg and an overall average of 12. Not good, but essentially the same as what we were getting in our 03 Honda Pilot. If you look at Consumer Reports for their city mileage you will see that even small cars get awful mileage in true stop and go city traffic. The only SUV option that we considered that would have probably been better in the city was the Highlander Hybrid, but that we did not like the way it drove or the cheap feel of the interior (acres of fake wood on the dash and console). We look forward to the BMW diesels and hybrids to come that will improve the city mileage.

Just did the same trip but backwords(from home to vacation house - 125 miles ), same up/down hill road, speed range 50-65, with 22.6mpg. I think thats amasing for a V8, I remeber my old E53 3.0i at around 24.5mpg max. Still not happy with my city driving at 8-8.5mpg .
