Cracked frame
I have a 528e with a braking shimmy problem. So I looked at the lower control arms and found where they are mounted to the frame, the frame is cracked. And there is this bracket welded to the frame and connected to the control arm on the passenger side tha is not there on the other side.I'll just weld the frame, this is a beater. But does anyone have a picture of what all this is supposed to look like.

I'm sorry, I'm retarded. I'm talking about the trust arms and where they are attached to the body/frame rail of the car. Does anyone have a good pic of this area of the car? I just bought this car on the cheap and I am not very familiar with them.

Well, if you go the "cheapest" route you will be doing them again in a year or two. You should get only Meyle or Lemforder brand and, if possible, with the HD bushings on them (upper arm). Depending on your location, contact Steve Haygood or AutohausAZ (free ground shipping) for the best prices around.
Good Luck!

Wow, I'm missing the entire sway bar! The bracket I was talking about is where the sway bar bolts too, and someone just hacksawed the end links off too! Looks like I'm going to have to source that bracket and do some more welding! Yesterday was the first day I was really able to get under the car and really look at everything. It looks like someone jumped some railroad tracks or something! Good thing is at least the subframe assembly looks undamaged. Could you help me find a sway bar and end links? by the way i really appreciate the help!!!!!!!!

Well I just found these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E...m140233121954&
And someone told me about a place called Stan Gills junkjard not far from where I work. So i guess I'll get the mounting bracket I need with a portable reciprocating saw while I'm getting the sway bar and endlinks. I'm told they have more e28,e23,e24 then anywhere else near me. |
