"Turbine"/Whirring noise when accelerating through 1st and 2nd gear?...

Sigh... ok I thought I'd ask about another thing I've noticed about my car since I bought it. Might as well find out about this too.

When I am stopped, and then I begin to accelerate I hear a "whirring" or jet turbine type noise as I accelerate through the first and second gears. Kind of like the sound a generator makes. In my past experience this has been either low fluid in the transmission or the alternator going bad. However perhaps others have heard it as well...

Any insight? Thanks.

Supercharger/Turbo lol? That'd be pretty cool... just like in my dreams.

In all seriousness though, could it be a vacuum leak in the intake?

HAHA YES! A free turbo would rock!

The only other time I've heard that noise is when I had a 2003 Mercedes E500 with a bad power steering pump reservoir.

I thought I had heard a sound similar to the Escalade's infamous front diff or transfer case whine. I still do sometimes, and thought that was what you were referring to.

Ohh no no.. I know that sound very well but this goes with the revs of the motor, not the speed of the car. It seems to be more pronounced when there is a load on the car though.
