Question New 335i Coupe!

Hey guys first time posting. I just got out of the RCMP training academy (finally) and i'm ready to buy this car of course with the help of my parents . I know exactly what I want and i optioned it out on BMW.ca

Total MSRP $62,950

Colours & Wheels

Cream Beige w/Dakota Leather
Black Sapphire Metallic
Brushed Aluminum Trim
18" Star Spoke Alloy Wheels - Style 189

Packages & Options

6 Speed Automatic Transmission with STEPTRONIC Shift Paddles $1,700
Sport Seats (includes electrically adjustable seat width) Included
Sport Package $2,000
Premium Package $3,950
Navigation Package $2,900
BMW Assist with Bluetooth Wireless Technology Included

So now im wondering how much should I expect to pay? Also, do you think that the metallic black and the normal jet black are different? I heard the sapphire stays cleaner for longer

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have a 335i with saphire black/dakota red combo. Never had a black car before but find this colour is fairly easy to keep clean and does not show dust/dirt. You just need to shammy after washing as it will show water spots. Love it, good luck.

I'd go with the non-metallic black. It's just a little sexier, and saves you some $$$.

that's all personal opinion. I think regular black cars remind me of funeral cars and are a PITR with dust and road dirt - ie, you have to clean them much to often for my liking... I do notice that in luxury cars there are MORE black cars proportionally than many other marques - I would NEVER purchase one though... personal taste - nothing more.

Many folks find Sapphire Black a little less black than Jet Black. I agree with that. But, it does look very nice.

You mention building your car on the website - just to be sure you're aware, you can no longer order a 2008 model, so for 2008 models you are going to be limited to what's on the ground or in transit.

Congrats on your graduation, welcome and good luck with your purchase.

I guess if I was straight out of Depot, I'd be concerned about taking a brand new 335i to my first posting in the NW Territories ;-)

These are all good comments. It's a personal preference. I forgot to mention that your options don't include convenience access (as long as the key is in your pocket you touch the doors and trunk, they will open. Also no key to insert, once you're in the car just press the start and away you go) I find this surprisingly one of the best options.
Good luck in your new posting.

i heard that twin turbos might have some problems in the coming years of ownership and that they're not as reliable as the 328's engine? any truth to the matter?

Yes this is generally true, when you add more components to an already complicated system the laws state that more can go wrong. There have been turbo and wastegate failures already. Obviously those failures wouldn't have happened if they weren't there. The constant high heat of the motor will also affect longevity down the road. Not to mention that the hpfp issue still seems to be prevalent in cars being built even now.

First...I don't know what differences there are in the Canadian and US cars, but I'm currently on an ED with a 2008 335i coupe.

The star spoke wheels I upgraded to were item #230 and were a $1,000 upgrade.

I completely agree that spending an additional $500 on Comfort Access is an option you will enjoy every time you jump in your car.

I wouldn't worry too much about the turbos...BMW has a pretty good track record on their drivetrains...and I'd think that anything catastrophic will be detected during the warranty period...at least that's what I'm hoping.

The difference between the two blacks that you mentioned will be negligible...if you want your car to stay cleaner looking longer...going with a lighter color will help that. IMHO, black BMW's are among the most beatiful cars on the road today.

I got my 328 with every option except for the park assist and cold weather pkg. the comfort access system is by far my fav. I just keep the key in my breifcase and forget about it.

US and CAD are pretty much at par right now.

It's a joke how much more we have to pay for cars.

ps - the jet black is sooooo black, but you have to keep it clean.

By the way, that price is on the high side.

I paid less for a fully loaded 335xi coupe. (manual)

Are those 2009 prices???

1. You probably won't get much more than $1,000 off MSRP.
2. Jet or Sapphire Black is up to you. They are both difficult to keep clean. Mine is JB and I prefer it over SB.
3. Get the comfort access. It is "way cool".
4. I would agree that the twin turbos offer the POSSIBILITY of reliability issues down the road, merely because they are extra gizmos on the car. But I also agree that BMW is pretty good about designing drivetrains and I doubt they will be a serious matter for the vast majority of 335i owners.
5. I am assuming you have driven both 328i and 335i's? Which one gives you the "gotta have it" reaction? If you know that answer, then you know which one to get.

oh - and do a search on the black color comparison - there are tons of comments in many threads about this choice.

Doug

I gotta say I have SB and it shows dirt and water marks and i hate that comparing to my previous cars Titanium silver metalic i would leave for 2 weeks without a car wash and it still looks clean, Won't buy black again i will stick with silver and white IMO

For my ED on a loaded 2008 with manual...I was able to get a little more than 10% off of MSRP...including the cost of all the options.
