I have a TPMS Question

Vehicle - 2005 745Li

This car does not have sensors in the stock wheels. What else would cause a flat tire message?

By 9/07, all vehicles must utilize a direct monitoring system with a pressure sensor inside each tire to broadcast the tire pressure to a central receiver on the vehicle.

E-65/66 up to 3/03 had an optional TPMS or direct monitoring system then switched back to FTM or indirect monitoring which became standard as of 12/03. We are now back to direct monitoring as requested by the federales or la migra.

To answer your question, your wheel speed sensors.

What could cause the wheel speed sensors trigger the flat tire message? Asguming that all wheels and tires have the proper PSI.

The operating principle is in conjuction with Dynamic Stability right? If one or more wheel spins slower than the others (by the impedance measured through the sensor and processed by the DSC module) and there are no wheel slips (or slick road) and you are not on a turn (steering angle sensor, lateral acceleration sensor and the absence of yaw), theres only one explanation..........

does the spare tire have the right amount of psi? point the vavle stem of the spare tire to either the left or right rear wheel. because the spare uses one of the rear wheel brains.

hey sam I had the same problem < it was because I had taken off a wheel and put the spare on, then when I returned the proper wheel, it sent the flat tire message??? You have to reset the ftm, its pretty simple.

How do you do it?

Sounds like you have the FTM system which utilitizes the ABS sensors. If the light is on you probably have a flat or that one (or more) of your tires is very low on pressure.

It's a customers car. I think he has FTM system. Anyways, no flat tire, no spare on his car, but something did trigger the light.

he may have added some pressure, i also didnt have a flat but it kept telling me I did, U have to go into the car menu look for ftm and reset it, just click on the ftm and follow the insructions.

will not having spare trigger a warning?

Mine is 07/03, then is it safe to say that mine has FTM instead of TPMS?
Now I will go search on FTM and see what the major diff are b/t that and TPMS.
A lot of stuff to learn about my 1st bimmer.. whew~
