I read in the manual that the gearbox oil is "lifetime" but I always wondered if it needs to be replaced, esp with the way some of us drive the engine performance wise, anyone have any experience with this?

15th of november my car is going back to the dealership.

I also experience the 'jerk' in the gearbox while accelerating or braking. So I'm definitly going to ask for a oil change of the gearbox and if they can check where the jerk is coming from.

Exclamation Gearbox Problem

Hello guys,

I have experienced a problem in my 2004 530i gearbox

after about 3 years of normal use

I started feeling it when stoping, i felt that the last gear down change is too late and that i should give it slower stop to give enough time to change,

in addition to hearing a very low sound when accelerating and gears shift gears

after a while I had a problem reversing my car since i could'nt put pressure on the gear like climbing on a clif or pressing a little bit more fule at once

after that my computer started giving me these alerts about transmission

I sent my car to the dealer and they had to change the whole gearbox for around $8,000

Ahhh...little late, but if you have a manual gearbox, chances are the procedure to check for level is pretty simple:

- Jack up car safely
- Wriggle underneath and remove the filler plug from the box
- Stick your finger into the hole
- If your finger is wet with oil, it's full
