Cam conversion

Anyone with experience on placing an m3 cam into a 93 e36? Also any for sale out there? Have heard that they are not compatible, is this true? If it would work I understand it I would only need intake cam, cam gear would help as well. Anyone know about rating job 1-10 in difficulty and time needed for R & R?
