VR 50i w/ Leather Dash - TTV8 Real MPG Confirmed By BMW Engineer

I will need to do this in two post.One exterior and one interior.Found this VR 50i w/ leather dash and Style 214 Y Spoke wheels.This is a non-US model....I think the language on the side view mirror is Korean.The X6 brochure says you cannot get the Y Spoke Wheels on the 50i X6 in the US.I like the Y Spoke best of all the OEM wheels BMW offers on the X6.While I was taking these pic's an older restored 5 Series pulled into the stall right next to this X6.A "Rut Row" moment.A gentleman hops out and says don't mind me I've got to get a broom out of the X6.This guy is an Engineer at the BMW Plant and this X6 is his daily driver/test car.He raves about the X6.He has been driving this X6 for a little over 2 months.This Engineer said the real "buzz" about the 50i X6 will be the outstanding gas mileage that the TTV8 engine will get.He said he is getting 18-19 MPG City and 23-24 MPG Interstate.I told him you must be kidding me.He said no,he was dead serious,confirmed by the onboard computer and him checking the old fashion way...miles driven divided by gallons used.He said he drives "Sprited".In fact, he said the TTV8 will get better mileage than the TTI6 in the 35i X6.Very hard to believe....but maybe BMW has hit on some internal engine tweaks that really bump up MPG.It will be interesting to see the actual MPG owners get once the 50i's are in service for a few months.Thought you would like to know about this conversation.Thanks! I saw a one on the street here in Brooklyn with the same wheels but they were dark gray. The car was black and looked really good except from behind which I think is the weakness on the X6 but at least it looked better in black than white.

Dude the EPA already rated the X6 5.0 and it is close to the X5 V8 MPG numbers. Tell your friend he is smoking crack.

I average 23.7 mpg on the highway with my X5 4.8i, so I believe that the X6 50i is capable of delivering on those numbers.

His computer shows 274 mile range left
It also shows he traveled 76 miles.

274 + 76 = 350 miles on a tank. divided by a 22 gal tank, is 15.9 MPG.

Of course he will tell us next the tank was not full when he started his trip.

I can understand your being cynical but been sarcastic- don't know why.
If you look at what I posted:

The first pictures shows that I have traveled 245 miles already

The second one shows gives the following:
I have a Range= 274
Distance to Destination= 76 miles

So if you can properly sum, your computation should be something along this line:
Distance traveled + Range=> 274+245= 519 miles
519 miles/22 gal = 23.6 mpg.
Please use your head before making a critique.

Something I started doing that made the difference: I drive in DS mode, and shift at 2000 rpm.

Confirming ... my 08 4.8i X5 interstate 24.0mpg (speed 55-60) for 125 miles including entering city for 2 miles(did it both ways from house and back ). My stop and go city mpg - 6.5-7.5mpg

Did you drive in DS mode?
I believe stop and go traffic is the big killer.
The 4.8 when driven meticulously will give you good mpg.

Well hell, I think that mileage is not only believable but pretty dern kick a$$, not to mention that x6 is one nifty lookin mode of transportation. The back view is odd, but I like it more than the x5's rear.

EPA is obviously not going to be close to this, but it doesnt matter
If i drive my 335i specificaly to save gas (no pushing throtle, just light touch on gas pedal, 60mph, etc) i get 33mpg, even though EPA rating is 26

Light V8 + Turbo + Low RPM and high TQ = Good efficiency = good MPG

I still think most of you guys are all on crack! My last three tanks of gas have returned gas mileage between 11.5-12.6 mpg. Granted a lot of my driving is in city, I still drive at least 80-100 miles a tank on tollroads with no stopping. Even cruising on straight hwy 24/7 I cannot see anyone getting 23+mpg and who drives 100% of the time on the freeway anyways?

Good idea. Try taking crack and driving, you might be able to achieve the 23+mpg on the HWY.

I'm sorry to hear that
When i drive 100% city (NYC) i barely get 13MPG on my 335i
Too many traffic lights, short distance between streets
Mostly spending time at the light than driving
100% highway is 30-33mpg
Mixed about 20-22mpg

It's all about your driving style, avg speed, traffic, etc
Oh, did i mention average speed?

P.S. My FX45 is about 14mpg mixed driving

But you should be able to better than that, my dad's getting 13 mpg in a 08' F-250 so surely a bimmer can pull a lil better.

I´ve been driving an X6 xDrive50 for the past week or so and I´ve gotten ca. 14.3 mpg (16.3 l/100 km). This has been 50% highway and 50% local streets.

When I drove my 550i today, I got 19.8 mpg (11.9 l/100 km). Granted my 550i has a standard transmission and fewer hp than the TT V-8 but it also has a lot less weight.

Incidentally the x6 xDrive50 goes 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds and the 550i goes 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds.

I never thought of the 550i as an economical vehicle before.

I have now filled up 9 or 10 times and am getting about 13.5-13.7mpg with city and some hwy driving. If I drive pretty aggressively I am getting about 12.4-12.6mpg. About what I expected.
