zhp dropped me SES / 2240 OBDII code

BMW 330i ZHP / code 2240 OBDII

my car dropped me a SES. only one code posted as 2240
-O2 sensor positive current circuit/open Bank 2 sensor 1

so with some looking it appears to be the pre-cat O2 getting stupid at only 52K miles.

so the question is: is replacing this O2 sensor the solution? what are the other things that could force the ECU to pass this code? intake, coil, injectors?

my symptoms are what feels like misfiring...or stumbling upon accelerartion in 3-6th gears- its a slight stuttering that appears to quiet down or disappear with reduced(minimal) throttle input.

I replaced the plugs yesterday just as a maintainance move but without effect either on the situation.

should i just replace the noted O2 sensor or both pre-cats ?

then review the situation again......then look at ignition coils...or what ?

thanks

This sounds very familiar, like a thread may have been posted recently with a similar situation. Search the forum and see what you come up with.

It's unlikely the O2 sensor is gone this early. I think intake or vacuum leak could cause the problem and result in the code you reference since the sensor is reading out of it's normal operating range.

o2 sensors possible, changed plugs, maybe wiring harness?

Trouble Code: P2240

O2S Sensor Positive Current Control Circuit/Open Circuit (Bank 2 Sensor 1)

Possible Causes:

* Check plugs
* Check wiring harness
* Replace sensor

I think ignition coils throw a different code don't they?

Referred to SIB 12 08 05. Technician completed program update per SIB.

2 weeks on and this seems to have fixed the problem. Hope this
helps.

i also was experiencing the exact symptoms and made my appointment. i had no stalling or other vanos related problems or audible indicators. i only experience SES bank 2 sensor 1 O2 code and the surging/jerking on acceleration through 2500 - 3000 prm.

after tech agreement with software update he also suggested that O2 be replaced but i wanted to test the code O2 patch first.

250 and tax later i drove home with none of the symptoms and i tried like mad to get them to present themselves. if SES and code gets thrown for O2 again and i'm not experiencing the past symptoms i will then swap the 2 pre cats.

i'll report back upon better weather and more spirited driving results.

the software update for the SES and O2 fault code was the solution. another thousand miles and spirited miles attempting to get code thrown has resulted in well.....only fun and no code !

however, if ses is thrown again with the same O2 fault....i would then replace the sensors...but at 50Kmiles i was more inclined to believe the software parameter oversight for the precats. it worked !

i'll keep all posted if there is change other than great fun

Exclamation P2240 code and jerky acceleration at 2500-3000 RPM

I was experiencing frequent "service engine soon" lights due to P2240 codes and noticed when accelerating between 2500 to 3000 rpm a hesitation. I had my car diagnosed by a BMW Master Mechanic and he told me that cylinder 1 was not getting any fuel resulting in a "lean" fuel condition.
H said to replace the fuel filter, I asked how can the fuel filter go bad at 25000 miles, he repleid that if the car sits for a long time without being used, the water content in the gas can corrode the inside of the fuel filter thus resulting in he symptoms I was experiencing with my car.
I replaced the fuel filter and problem solved...just my two cents
