They're replacing the car. It has been in the shop for about 6 weeks of the 6 months that I've owned it for various troubles. 3 weeks now for the sunroof. The roof and likely the hood will need to be repainted before being sold at auction as a buy back. I've asked this in other threads, but does anyone know why the cylinder #3 injector is the one commonly having problems on the TT?

Mein Auto: 2009 535i
Hi all, new to the forum and I've been reading this thread with great interest. I just put down payment for a 2009 535i to be delivered in December. Unfortunately, I am buying from essentially a broker and she wasn't really all that knowledgeable about the options. My main question is about the sports package. I elected to not get it. Is this a mistake? What I did get is Deep Sea Blue color, Beige leather interior, Premium Package, Steptronic automatic Trans, Heated seats, Rear Power Shade, multi-contour seats, high beam assistant, Navigation system, Logic 7 Sound, Comfort Access System and HD radio (which won't work until I get it back to the US). So, I still have the 17" tires. I'd like to hear the pros and cons for the sports package and 18 vs 17" tires. It isn't too late to make some changes to the order.

Congratulations on your 2009 535i NewBeemerGuy, and welcome to Bimmerfest.

In my opinion you should definitely consider the Sports Package option. The sports package offers a dynamic edge to the 5 series sedan's look and performance thanks to the sporty black shadowline trim, 3-spoke leather-wrapped multi-function sport steering wheel, and 20-way multi-contoured front seats. In addition, the Sports Package delivers even more thrilling performance by including sport suspension calibration, active roll stabilization and larger, more agressive cast alloy wheels with performance run-flat tires. I had the sports package on my '05 525i, and currently have it on and my '08 535i. I would not drive a BMW without it.

You should also consider the Active Steering option. Active steering enhances the driving experience by varying the steering ratio based on vehicle speed. At low and medium speeds, the steering is more direct. The car is more agile and nimble, especially on twisty roads. As you increase speed, the steering ratio gradually changes, providing greater directional stability. I had active steering on my '05 525i and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really miss not having it on my '08 535i. I was wrong in assuming that Active Steering was included in the Sports Package as it was on my '05 525i.

Keep in mind that both options will increase the price of your new car. You can check with your broker, or contact any BMW dealer for the current pricing on these options.

Good luck and let us know when you take delivery of your new 2009 535i.

I'll certainly echo the endorsement of the sports package and AS. Most importantly for me, however, is the sport automatic transmission instead of the step. It's only $500 over the step, and it's by far the best $500 I opted on my car.

I think you need sport package to get SAT though.

What's the advantage of the Sports Automatic transmission vs the Steptronic?

Mein Auto: 2008 535i BMW
I have a 2008 535i with issues. Every couple of hundred miles while I'm cruising at 65mph to 70mph it will all of the sudden start "missing" or "sputtering" and the "engine malfunction/reducing horsepower" lights come on. I have approximtely 2,200 miles on the car, it's 2 months old, and it's in the BMW shop for the 3rd time now today (11/4/08) for the very same issue. First time it was misfire in cylinder 3; second time it was misfire in cylinder 1; this time it was a misfire in another cylinder. BMW has no idea what's wrong. They asked me what kind of gas I was using every time!! It's always been 91 Octane Chevron. Has anyone found a BMW dealership that can resolved this issue yet? Are these 535i's lemons? This is frustrating for a $60,000 car.

New to the forum, but apparently I dont have a new problem. Have a 2008 535i with about 10k on it and engine malfuction/power reduced mesage comes up. Flat bedded to dealer who after 7 days of "diagnostics" told me it was bad gas, that the fuel injectors were clogged and that they had to replaced the injectors, drain the tank and replace the fuel sender. $ 1,700 later out the door. Claimed it wasnt a warranty problem. Two days later, the gas gauge isnt working and back to shop. This time they told me the other side of the saddle tank now needed to be repaired. This time after much noise they decided to fix it for free. While fixing it they broke one of the hoses and had the car a total of 10 days. Fast forward three weeks later, yesterday I get the engine malfunction/power reduced message again. This time I am told there are at least two cylinder misfiring and theya re still working on it. Any ideas short of a tall cliff and parachute would be welcome

You should take this up with BMW NA. If you have always used premium gas (name brand, 91 Octane or better per the owners manual) you should not have to cover those costs.. I would certainly be trying to recover them.

If BMW is going to market these autos in North America, they have to be able to run on the gasolines that are sold here. I would also have asked them for a written analysis of the "bad gas" and explanation of what was "bad" about it... Too much ethanol, water, debris, etc. The "bad gas" explanation seems to be a far too common BMW explanation for this issue for me to truly believe it.

Absolutely correct. And you might consider trying a different dealership. You're not getting much support from the one you're going to.

Not trying to highjack the thread but I noticed after reading all the posts that most didn't get the SAT option and the few that did get it didn't say to much about it, any reason for not getting it other than the additional $500? A few have answered my post about SAT and thanks.
cheers

Follow up. Thanks for the advice. Service called and said the engine malfunction/power reduced problem was a "computer malfuction" which I now know to be BMW speak for we have no idea what's wrong, take your car and go home. Needless to say, two days later, same problem, back to service. This time the head mechanic says they need to change the coils in cylinders 1,2 and 3. Still waiting. Would love to take it to a different dealership except the next closest one is 45 miles and not sure I trust the car to make it there. If someone would post the numebr for BMW NA customer service it would be greatly appreciated.

I would find it difficult to believe the fuel injectors were clogged. Doesn't your car have a fuel filter? ( sarcastic remark). I would think the filter would get clogged andthe injectors would simply be starved of fuel. It sounds like they really do not understand the problem.

Latest Update. Service now says its not the 1,2,3 cylinders it is a "leaky fuel injector". This is same fuel injector tha they replaced 20 days ago. Seems like they dont want to give me the correct information so I can't lemon law the car. Can someone post a number for BMW NA customer service. Thanks
