Anyone change their hood struts or trunk lid struts? My trunk ones haven't been "peppy" for about 6 - 12 months. I remember the lid opening easier on its own and now I have to help it up. Any advice besides replacing the 2 strut/absorbers? And if you have replaced, any advice on where to buy? I've seen new ones at Bavauto online for $25 - $30 price range, but I've seen other places selling some for $15-ish - wondering if they're used and any good, or just a waste of money.
My hood struts seem to need replacing or repair too. Just having my hood open last weekend, it was on the hairy edge of wanting to come back down on my head during an oil change - not fun as it hit me in the head several times. So I'm thinking they're bad and need replacing. Hate to replace them if anyone has insight otherwise on fixing or repairing them. Same thing about buying them - any advice on where to get? Thanks. |

Forgot to specifically mention my model is a 1997 328i convertible - if that matters. Mostly looking at the big picture on repair or replacement and where to get parts if needed. Thanks.

I bought a set of hood shocks from Bavauto, and it only took ten minutes to replace them. If they don't come with the little clasps that hold them on (I can't remember if they did or not), order them. You just pop off the old ones with the blade of a screw driver and then slide the new ones on.
These shocks work fine.

I also ordered the hood struts from bavauto.com and replaced them last weekend. The struts did come with clips but the web site said they didn't so I ordered four of additional ones. Glad I did because the ones that came with the struts would not stay closed around the pin. The others worked fine. Only one of the existing struts were bad but I replaced them both anyway.
