You know, as much as we all may enjoy the beautiful E39, the E60 is not justifiably ugly. It is infact quite aggressive-looking, especially the E60 M5. But hooray Bangle is gone! =D

No doubt that the Bangle butt & Idrive were controversial and disliked by many....but rivals like Toyota, Lexus & Mercedes were adopting some of Bangle’s design cues and principals to their cars and SUVs.

Bottom line: The classic lines and grace of all BMWs have historically been instantly recognizable as such even at great distance; BMWs influenced by Bangle's "contemporary" design look pretty much like any other late-model car at any distance. Whether you like or dislike his design, that's the undeniable truth.

Bangle was "a" designer, among many for the e39; he was not head of design until quite a bit later. His influence does not appear to show in the e39--unless he's the bonehead who decided to use paper mache for valve cover and windshield gasketing and Fisher Price rejects for the cooling system? I could see that....

Not only has Bangle been banned from getting near the pencil box at BMW design (he was "promoted" to a position where he would not be allowed to actually design anything himself in 2005), but now he is out at BMW all together. Thank god...

Bangle says he will "pursue his own design-related endeavours beyond the auto industry." Experts warn to be on the look out for ugly and impractical household appliances, consumer goods and recreational equipment, all made out of plastic and paper macher.

Obviously I love my car. I also really, realy like the E60 (Bangle). If I could afford a 535xi with the options that I want, that's what I would be driving.

I'm interested to see he does next.

Umm...Isn't the fact that "Toyota, Lexus & Mercedes were adopting some of Bangle's design cues" more of a condemnation of Bangle than praise?

I dont think the e90, or e60 look bad at all.

I think it will be VERY interesting to see what BMW comes up with though, because with my life, all I have really seen in new BMW's is Bangle's design.

I won't be sorry to see him go. I loved my E46, while my E90 doesn't look nearly as good. And since he was promoted away from design, I already see improvement - the new E89 looks really good.

ok, I'll probably upset a lot of people, but I really, really like my wife's E60! I understand classic BMW design, my E46 vert is gorgeous and even my wife was disappointed when the E60 came out. But after owning it for over 4 years, all i can say, is love it, love it, love it! Looks great! drives great! Very aggressive, very sporty, and it's just a 530i!!! I really like my G35x, but I enjoy driving and looking at the 530i so much more. My G35x with snow tires is awesome in the snow, but look wise nowhere near as aggressive -- almost a happy face (headlights/grill) compared to the 530i's "you have 1.5 seconds to get out of my way" look. After 4 years, the 530i still looks fresh and aggressive, the G35 looks like a "nice" car.

Plus, when my wife was disappointed when the E60 came out, I reminded her we'll be spending most of her time DRIVING the car, not staring at it (though I do stare at them a lot). Both cars are fun in their own way -- love the G35x in this bad snow, love the 530i anytime else.
