2002 325i turns off!

My 2002 325i turns off when in reverse but only sometimes. first it shakes as if its going to turn off then it does. It also makes a noise like a whistle, what could this be? some people said maybe the fuel pump?

By "turns off", do you mean "it stalls out"? If so, it could be a LOT of different things....what kind (if any) of maintainance has this car had? It`s at the age where a bunch of things are going to start failing....

It stalls out but it will turn back on but sounds like its gonna turn off but i dont give it time too, i just put it in drive and go LOL but at a stop sign or light it will do the same. Well we had to change out the belts and thats it. i havent had an oil change in about 4 months, could that also be the problem? they mentioned it might be the fuel pump but im a girl so i dont know.

That "noise like a whistle" kinda makes me suspect that you have a cracked or leaking rubber boot in the intake somewhere....they tend to get brittle with age....and that would contribute to a stalling issue. Dirty fuel filter or air filter may also be factors....these are the easiest, least expensive possibilities....I won`t even get into the other stuff.... :-)
