What will BMW do to keep up?

In the latest issue of Details magazine there is an article that talks about the LED headlights on the 2009 Cadillac Escalade Platinum that are supposed to be better than Xenons. 2012 MB S- Class is supposed to have a laser that scans the road ahead for bumps and a computer adjusts the suspension to that nothing jars you from your blissful Teutonic equlibrium. And, the 2012 Audi's console will communicate with traffic lights to predict the speed you should maintain so you don't have to stop, cutting down on time, gas and traffic.

So what will BMW come up with?

I think BMW will neuter us so that we can be EXACTLY like those no talent ass clowns (my best Office Space quote).

LED better than Xenons, not yet, let GM experiment with it and I'll gladly wait to enjoy the results

Laser scanned road bumps? I want Teutonic road feel. If I want to ride on a mushy blob of memory foam, I'd get a Lexus.

Communicate with traffic lights? Whatever for When I can step on the gas a run the yellow, or brake hard to stop before red. Gotta live up to the Bimmer driver attitude.

BMW will implant its drivers with an upgraded ecu that will make us zombies so that we can seek out everyone that didnt buy a BMW and eat their brains

BMW will do the same thing its doing now - purchase parts for the non-essential parts from other car manufacturers so that it can focus its research dollars on advances improve on its competitive edge.

Ex: The automatic transmission in the 3-series is made by GM.

BMW will install a "butt scan" that will have the ability to predict when U need to go. At that time the system will open a hole in driver's seat directly to the road. This will save time, gas and will create efficiency.

Too many car mfg's put in "features" simply because they "can", not because they "should". If you want to give me a laser system that I can use, give me one that'll blast everything out my way. And as for communication with streetlights, give me something that'll turn 'em all green.

BMW is working on a Transformer type car. It will turn in to a scram jet, to go on sale in 2011. A BMW driver/pilot instruction course will be required, to be held in Germany.

This all is reminiscent of film cameras. Near the end after they had done everything sensible years ago they had to keep trying to come up with something new to sell cameras. Digital saved them.

I just want BMW to install a machine the prints $100 bills and offer an optional blender.

I predict port-a-potty will be next.

How about a BMW that does a self oil-change?

Not only is an GM-made automatic transmission in a BMW non-essential, it's a goddamned outrage!

Personally, I say let the other manufacturers produce any toys they want for their cars. Give me a car with great driving dynamics, a feeling of being connected to the road, and three pedals and you've got me as a customer for life. The extras? Meh.

And I agree... I've worked with LED lighting and it's still a long way from the point where it's ready for prime-time in cars. Too many "false colour" problems for my tastes.

As for the fancy gadgetry those other car companies get, I'd say those are easily replicated. The balance of performance, comfort, and handling on the other hand is something that is not. That's why people don't buy Lexus if they want BMW performance.

Yup, let the new technology be tested by these other companies, than BMW will perfect it : )

It would be nice if BMW could incorporate a computer that will allow you to select your snack/meal and beverage of your choice and have it pop out of the console.
