I maynot have great advices for you because I'm in the IT... but you're right, employers are cutting cost here and there, and budget for training is almost the first to go. Instead of paying some experienced individuals high salary who asks for training, or even mentioning "I learned all these from training in the past", the employers would rather hire a college kid which the salary could be half of it and train that person on the job.

Then depends on how badly you want a certain position, never say "never"! If 70% of the position is what you're looking for and the other 30% isn't, think about how much you really wants it and the prioirty. If you're hired and turns out it's not something that you like, just look for another job before quitting. Gaining experience from a job is better than not being employed at all, in a market like this.

Like Bolie's thread asking if we want to buy a house next to a school, the realtor can actually sell this "special feature" to everybody, even though most of us would consider the school to be a big no-no. It's up to you how to make the negatives to look more positive, or try to have the interviewer focus on the positives when going through your resume.

A big thanks to Marc540i for some really solid advice on breaking into sales! Its been difficult figuring all of this out, as most of my friends are bean counters and not in sales.

Talked to him last night and I feel so much better about finding a job in the near future, or I at least feel like I'm on the right track! He has a wealth of knowledge in the field and was kind enough to do some brainstorming with me!Wooohooo!

For once in my life I'm actually looking forward to finding a job and working (still in grad school). If I'm going to work I want to make it worth my wile... It would be sooo nice to eventually make more than hubby. (A little competetive). I guess eventually was the key word there, but you've gotta start somewhere!

Oh, that sucks. I hate it when they turn your skills, knowledge, intelligence, etc, into a liability. The one that really bugs me is the old "you're over qualified for the job", I mean what is that all about? I'm pretty sure most of us could dumb ourselves down and be happy with a job to keep food on the table. Sure there's the possibility that we will jump ship if a better job comes along, but in today's career climate someone that has been at the same job more that 5 years is a seasoned veteran, and longer that 10 years at the same job is becoming very uncommon. Companies are cutting people loose like never before. Saying someone is over qualified or wouldn't be challenged enough is bullhooey, especially when the employers are the ones initiating the terminations so much more often.

Hang in there. Even though this job didn't pan out, you can at least come away from it knowing they knew you were too good for them and the job.
