Brand new tire with a nail - replace tire or just get it patched
This must be my unlucky day
I just walked into my garage and found one of my brand new Yokohama ES100 tires with a nail in it leaking pretty quickly . . . of coruse I alreeady took it off the car and mounted one of my M68's . . . Should I just get the darn thing patched or just splurge and spend $180 for a new one mounted and balanced . . . I never felt comfortable with a patched tire but will take your guys advice on this . . . BTW I post on this once before and got some mixed reviews so now that we have a tire forum . .. what's the word on this ? |

I had a nail in my tire just last week. I had it patched. I've had this done several times in the past with no problems. I don't track my car, it's just a daily driver. If that's your situation I see no problem with having it patched.

I'd have to agree with this. No need for a new tire unless the nail is in the sidewall.
You lose the speed rating of your tire by patching it but I doubt you'll be driving at 130+ anytime soon. |

Patch it if you don't plan on tracking it.
