Where to get a battery for 740il?

Hi,

My 2000 740il lately needs to jump start every few days and this morning, i couldn't started it again (I just drove an hour last night). I'm thinking I have a bad battery by now.

So my question is where do you normally go to replace the battery? can I go to my local autozone or some places like that to get it replaced or do i have to go to a dealer?

Thanks gurus.

Take a look at this post on: batteries

Duralast 49DL (AutoZone)
Werker 95R (BatteriesPlus)
AutoCraft Titanium 49-1 ( Advance Auto)
Interstate MP-93 (www.interstatebatteries.com)
DieHard (class size 49 or 95 battery-Sears)

Note - Battery must be vented.

The E38 battery area can accomodate two sizes of battery.

In an area like Tysons Corner, that's unusual. There are more sevens in the DC area than you can shake a stick at, but then....maybe most of their owners are going to the dealers for their batteries.

I went to all the local parts houses out here in Vegas (Autozone, Checkers, Pep Boys etc) and no one had a battery for the seven so I had to go to the dealer ($191) to get mine. Given the rate at which these batteries die in the heat, it would seem that at least one parts house would carry them, but noooo.......

You may be more likely to find the vented Interstate battery.

Thanks M.Wong, CrewDog843 and Terry.

I called around 12 local stores in the area (in and arorund tysons), Advanced Auto, PepBoys, AutoZone, no one had any of them. BatteryPlus wasn't open yet around 7:30am, so just by luck, the last autozone I called in Alexandria had two more 49DL left, so I drove all the way out there, I got one for $70-$12 old battery rebate = $58. GREAT PRICE!!!

At first I wasn't sure how to get it vented, but once I got the duralast and saw the vent accessory attached to the side of the battery, everything made sense.

Been a whole day so far, runs great. (It also made my Service light went away, extra sweet!! The last time my mechanic told me it was due to gas cap issue, he reset it but it came back again after a few month, since then I just ignored it. Now I have a clean dashboard, loving it!

Thanks again for your help, u guys save me a lot $$$.

You are more than welcome. Stay with us on this forum, and search around, there are other forums out there with members who are even more savvy on these cars. Use all resources at your disposal, and above all, contribute when you can. Everyone has something to contribute....no matter how small or how mundane you might think it is.......contribute.

PS: I used to live north of DC and south of Baltimore (Arundel Mills area) and spent a great deal of time in Tysons (Chinese wife...I'm sure you get the connection)....loved the Galleria.

$58? Wow! That is great!

If you get a check engine light (CEL) places like AutoZone here check the error codes for free. Then you can search boards like this to research the cause/solution. If it's something easy like a gas cap, that's great! But in general, I would say you are better off checking the code and knowing for certain. Just something to keep in mind if/when it comes on again.

Thanks for posting those compatible batteries Mike!

I ended up trading in my Duralast 49L for another for $25 b/c it had already failed on me. Oh well, at least it wasn't $200.
