One tire loses pressure

It seems like one of my tires loses pressure. I calculated it to be around 10 psi in the last 10 days. What may be the most likely cause? Does it mean I have to replace the tire or it can be repaired? I have 16k miles on them so far.

+1, found one in mine w/ identical symptoms & the local independent tire shop fixed it for ~$20.

I found something that looks like a nail head. Should I remove it or take the car to a tire shop? I am curious how they fix it if it costs only $20.

They fix it with an expanding rubber plug and some goop. Takes no time at all.

Don't take it out, let them do it. Though it's possible if you have RFTs that they can't/won't repair it.

Did you buy the tire and wheel warranty? That's about the only upsell worth the money. I had a bolt in my RFT at around 2k and they replaced the ~$400 RFT with no hassle. One more tire or god forbid one wheel and the policy will have paid for itself.

I had an RFT replaced today, i was reading my insurance contract today. I see it only covers original tires and wheels. Its a 5 year contract, so I guess after the tires wear out then the insurance will be good only for the wheels. is that the way yours is.

I would just leave it in there and go to the shop. They just patch it, i think that's why its cheap. regular tires, they'll do it for $10.
I had a nail w/o even knowing for weeks. First trip to the dealer, didn't find anything, but the tire keeps loosing air every 5-6 days. Second trip, they found a nail. asked them how much to replace, its $460 for the rear. I then went online looking for tire stores and asking them to see if they could patch the tire. I called "Firestone tire" store, they said it needs to be replaced. I then call "goodyear tire" store, they said they do it for 25 bucks. Its been a few days now, i haven't noticed anything abnormal.
call around and see if they can do it.

Discount Tires here in the DFW area will repair/patch yours for free even though you didn't buy there. Very nice people. That's why I decided to support them and purchased a set of PS2s from them.

In tires and people, it's best to leave the embedded object in place until you can get competent assistance from people that know what they're doing.

Hi Prof, did the TPMS identify which tire was low? I'm curious because i haven't experienced anything other than full pressure yet on the system.

Not off hand. I should've dug around in the check control to look for more information, but I didn't bother. I think the iDrive systems do give you more information.

The TPMS did identify my right rear (with nail) as the slow leaker...
