Glovebox USB help.
The manual is worthless on this. I have an 8 gig USB stick loaded up with music. I insert it into the port in the glovebox and the LED on the USB stick lights up so I know it has power.
On the Idrive I hit "Menu", then "CD/Multimedia", It brings you to a new page titled "Music Collection". On that page are 4 entries that are all grayed out: Music Search, Current Playback, Top 50, and No Entries. Can't select any of them. Can anyone tell me how to play the songs of the USB? I've tried it 3 time now. ![]() CaptainAudio should be the expert on this with his screen name right?

Hmmm... for me, it takes a while to load the USB, so maybe you just have to be patient. Have you given it some time?
It takes mine about 15 minutes to load. I have about 40 gigs on my 60 gig stick.

While I do not have an idrive, isnt it suppose to give you a USB option as well? my standard "business" stereo takes a few seconds to have a "USB" displayed. So as Professor said give it a little more time.

Thanks Prof. A lot of my drives are just 10 minutes here and there, so maybe I need to take a long drive and see if it will load.

Ok, on the music collections page, you have to then press options and select import music from USB or whatever if i remember right.
then it shows a bar importing the music as well, been a little while since ive done it, but from what you said, you didnt click any import you just went into your music collections folder try the options button and i think your problem will be solved, the car doesnt have to be running either. at least im sure mine wasnt, ill try it for you tomorrow good luck

I don't have to import mine, I just select the "AUX" tab in entertainment mode and it automatically comes up with my root folder showing Artists (how I have mine arranged).

I'm not sure if this would affect the loading time at all, but most USB drives have software that has to load every time you insert the drive(It pops up a window by the maker of the drive and a fancy menu usually). I know on my "Cruzer" drive it is called U3, you should be able to remove this and this could possibly significatnly cut down on the load time.
I hope what i said makes sense, but load the USB on a computer, if it says new device found every single time, instead of poping up the window that asks "what do you want windows to do" you probably have this software which is probably lagging the Car load time.

Just curious, what music format do the song need to be in on a flash drive to connect it to the USB port in the glove box?

The music files work in .wav or .mp3 formats... any compression ratio.

I think it says something like that in the manual. Something along the lines of you can only import songs onto the HD from only the glovebox/center USB but not the other. As far as playback is concerned I'm sure that as long as the file types are recognizable by the car it shouldn't matter which USB port you use (unless they have different read speeds)

I don't have a USB port in the center console. There is a power outlet and an AUX jack. My songs are in whatever format iTunes uses (MPEG4 I believe). Still no luck getting it to work. Tomorrow I have an hour long drive, so maybe they will load then. I'm clueless. Can't believe I might have to go to the stealership just to play music.

Protected AAC files have to be played through an Ipod, unprotected AAC can be stored and played on the hdd.

How do you import them? The car doesn't even see the USB stick. But the LED on the stick is on, so I know it has power.

If they are songs purchased on itunes before they dropped the drm, they will not play.
