Trunk Hooks

The hooks in the trunk, I guess they are hooks in the trunk that fold up to get out of the way, sort of where the seat back meets the trunk in the corner, and there is another hook on the back of the trunk near where the trunk closes. Are those hooks for a cargo net?

There is also something in the trunk near the top of the opening, I'll have to post pictures since I can't really describe, but it doesn't seem like its attached to anything. Its black and its right on the front of the trunk opening. It sort of looks like a lever, but its just kind of there and not really connected to anything.

I know what you are talking about. It's on the trunk hood (inside) and looks like a curved triangle? Mine, i believe, is yellow (don't recall).

I thought it might be a way to tie your trunk down if you put something in the trunk that makes it impossible to close (e.g. a chair/table). That is a guess and am not sure otherwise.

Yes! A curved triangle and that's where it is. Mine is black. I looked but it doesn't look like its connected to anything.

is the curved triangle the inside trunk release? in case some kid gets stuck in the trunk, they pull on it to open the trunk. could be completely wrong here . . .

can't find a bmw pic; here's one from lexus (circled in red)

Yes, the hooks are for a cargo net. It is a *very* handy accessory to have. I use mine all the time.

Not sure on the triangle thing since you said it is black. If it was a yellowish color, it would be the glow-in-the-dark Mafia Victim Escape Interior Trunk Release Safety Handle.

I'll try to remember to look at mine at lunch and see if I have something similar.

Its actually NOT the emergency pull handle in case you get locked in the trunk (LOL), oh well. Its just a little doo-hicky type of thing. I checked the BMW accessories, and the cargo net is about $60. Is that the price they are going for? I had one in my Audi, but when I turned it in I should have taken it (but then I don't know if I would've been charged for that, since it DID come with the car?). And it would also be nice to have those grocery holders too that suspend from the top of the trunk.

I was confused by that little doo hickey too. (It's a technical term.) I know what it is now.

When you lift the floor of the trunk to get at that compartment below, you lift the lid up and it fits just under the doohickey. The doohickey then flips down to hold the lid so you can use two hands to arrange things below.

Cool, no?

You know there is gotta be something wrong with your car when it takes six people to figure out what a "doohickey" does

There is a black plastic "hook" that will hold up the cover for the trunk floor (where the spare belongs). We have the grocery bag hooks. Not the best things - they have popped down before, or been knocked out when putting big things into the trunk, but they work otherwise. Oh, the grocery bag hooks, in our 335i, don't work with the lid holder. The prevent the lid from raising the last 1/2-inch, to let the hook grab it.

BMW has a grocery bag holder, but IMO it's not as good as Audi's. BMW's part number is
82 26 0 153 360 for the holder and 82 11 0 306 046 for the required bracket. Retail prices are $24.95 and $11.50, respectively, but you can probably do better on this (and the very useful cargo net) here: http://getbmwparts.com/

The part number for Audi's grocery bag holders is 1K5-867-615 and the mounting screws are N-013-969-21. Best to get two holders and four screws. Cost from an Audi dealer inclusive of CA state tax is about $46. They need to be installed per this DIY: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87339 I have them installed in my E90 and they are great.

Good luck!

Brian

If you plan on upgrading your trunk interior I recommend the BMW trunk mat. It is a light rubbarized mat designed to fit in your trunk. Great if something is wet or dirty. I scuba dive so it will be nice to put my wet scuba gear in there and not worry the carpeting will get damaged.

EDIT: Do you have any pictures of the cargo net?

First thing I got was the cargo mat and net. Got the spare later and secured it with a second cargo net. Also added the First Aid kit and completed the tool kit because I didn't like not having the missing items.

I took a picture

Here's a picture of the hook that I'm questioning its use/purpose. Its not much of a hook per se. I tried to open the trunk flooring and it wouldn't secure itself to the hook because it would just go right up to it and wouldn't go past the black hook. Its not connected to anything, but you can push it in so it fold up against the top of the trunk.

Thatís odd. My trunk floor will lift up and go past the hook. The hook flips down to hold it up in place.

All that does is to hold the trunk floor lid in place; it does nothing else. Especially because there is nothing under that lid/cover on the floor. Mine works just fine for that purpose.
