I just came across another one...

I wouldn't mind a throatier exhaust for my E90 but for the reasons Oldtoe experienced I've held off. The car is plenty loud when under load but cruising around town it's a bit more docile than I'd prefer. I guess I can cross one exhaust off my list. I wonder if the BMW Performance Exhaust is any better - it sure is expensive!

So I get to thinking, "There really is no way a company would put out a product at this price point that is SUPPOSED to sound like this." I crawled under the car this afternoon to discover that the passenger side pipe was touching the subframe behind the rear differential housing. I loosened the clamps on both sides, moved the mufflers into their PROPER positions and drove the car. It is about three times less noisy than before. Still a little noticeable at 2,000 RPM; but that was with the radio off and the fan barely blowing. I think I raised a stink on account of not having done due diligence in checking other people's work, as I almost always do. I'm not saying I'm going to keep it now, but it really is significantly less offensive inside the car now.

My wife drove the car and says he new exhaust makes it difficult for her to judge the engine note and when to shift gears. She also hates the intake. Back to stock we go! Her comment: "You know, this is a $45,000 German luxury car; and I don't get why you put these things on it."
