E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135. |

1 series boot not unlocking
Hi,
i have a 54 1-series 120i. When pressing the unlock on the key fob, the boot does not pop (the rest of the central locking unlocks). Any ideas? It is a royal pain in the ... as i have a child seat in and putting a push chair into the boot via the folding down seats is not easy. Please help? |

You have to hold it down for a few seconds, if you're doing that I don't know. You could change the key to unlock everything with the door unlock.

If you program the key to unlock everything then it unlocks the trunk but it does not pop up. you have to pull it up with your hand. You sure you're holding down the correct part of the key for at least 5 seconds ?

Have you solved the issue?
If not, I bet you the problem is that the truck lock switch is on in the glove compartment. To find it, open up your glove compartment, get down really low and look towards the upper left side. You'll see there's a switch where you can either completely lock or unlock your trunk. It's part of a valet system. Hope that helps! ~Jon

hi,
thanks for the replies. still no luck. there is no switch in the glove compartment. At the back is a flap that pulls away and has the fuses on it. Is this what you mean??? Also is there a way to open the boot without the key? ie can the plastic facade in the boot it self be taken of and the boot popped manually? |

Try dropping the rear seats and crawl inside. Then pull on the emergency handle.

Does the trunk open using the grip strip (soft touch pad) above the lic plate? I think the doors need to be unlocked as well

Try this:
Unlock the car with the remote control so all doors and boot are unlocked. Then, with the boot closed, press and hold the boot unlock button on the remote for 1 second or longer and see if the boot pops open. UK cars dont have the button in the glove box. Let me know how you get on. |

hi, i have managed to open the boot using the emergency handle. It seems to me that it is something electrical. Ie when pressiing the remote the boot is not lunlocking. I don't think it is a problem with the key fob (we have 2 and no difference), is it likely to be a fuse, wiring or something more complicated?
