Fan Clutch

The fan clutch just crapped out again in my BMW. Not a huge issue, but two have gone in just one year. Once on my 86 red one (now the parts car) and now on my 85. Begs me to ask the question, do they just die after twenty or so years?

How have they held up for the rest of you?
