I want to do my own oil change on my 2002 BMW X5 (3.0I). How many quarts of oil does it take? Thank You.

about 7.75 quarts with the oil filter. Put 7 in, start it to pressurize the system and fill the filter. Then shut it off and check it using the dipstick. Add accordingly.

I put 8.5 quarts in there. As we all know though, BMW burns oil. I called BMW and a service guys told me 8 quarts. So am I safe at 8.5 quarts?

I change the filter every time and I always use exactly 8 qts. I put in the frist 7 start the engine. shut of and check dipstick. it always just touching the bottom mark. add half a qt , up to the middle. add the other half right to the top. I figure something like a qtr. qt hangs up in the bottles and it works.
Buy 8 qts change the filter and you are good to go. |
