2001 x5 fuel filter replacement 3.0

first bmw, trying to start fresh, changed oil filter now get service eng soon code po171. X5 running great thinking it may be fuel filter. any posted directions on how to replace. i did find some for the 8 cyl but didnt know if it was in the same place on the 3.0. Also tried to reset oil change lights by directions in posts. did get the inspection reset but green lights for oil change did not reset. also seems like excessive heat in engine compartment but no overheating probs. is this norm for a bmw? flush and therm change i guess after fuel filter.

Ok new to all the forums and found xoutpost.com that had all these answers. Realized these questions are posted quite often and many here prob get tired of answering same ones over and over. Thanks to those that mentioned xoutpost in other threads....
