It looks good. I like the new V8, but the performance numbers are still lacking....it weighs too much. Its barely faster than the old M3 in the 1/4 mile and 0-60. In the US these are the numbers that mean the most. You cant cruise at one hundred fifty mph here for very long. They need to do more to lighten the load.
I love the M3 and have owned 2 of them now, but the performance characteristics of the competing cheaper cars are pretty impressive--the M3 should be a performance trailblazer--not a follower. The only way to make this car shine is to wait for the DINAN S3 package to arrive 3 years from now. |

I would not be able to justify the gas mileage.

The new M3: Body style could have been better designed!
After looking at the pictures, extensively. The over all shape of the car looks okay, yet, I believe they could have added more curves around the tires and minor curves around the body to make it look more exotic and fast looking. The designers idea of putting a hood scoop or bump is a good idea, unfortunately, the one they chose does not look good at all. The could have put in a lower and sleek looking hood scoop that looks more sleeker and aggresive, considering the enourmous horse power under the hood. This car general look to similiar to a 3 series (I own a 2007 328 xi). Last edited by Felicity; 03-16-2008 at 07:39 AM. |

Wasn't feeling the pics too much but when I saw it up close it was a different story. Looking to test drive one ASAP. Up close and personal it's a far better looking car IMHO. |

Checked it out few days ago at the dealer. At best; "So, So"! BMW had such a beautiful design with the E46 and they go and clone some mix of Asian imports. Very disappointing to see the world's "Class Act" degrade their product line to just another "Look-Alike". BMW, I thought you had more class than this.

I can't believe people vote on the last two, the M3 is faster around a track than the:
- Audi RS4 - Mercedes C63 AMG - Lexus IS-F Is there more to say? A more powerful inline-6 wouldn't have been a great Idea. The V8 is just right, because its there with its competition. The M3's V8 is the most technological from in its competition. It has less torque but still ends up beating its competition around the track. I find it funny because its competition is a joke. IS-F was the stupidest idea from Toyota's part ever. Its as selfish and stupid as Cadillac's V-Series because the older M5 was the best & fastest sedan in its time, GM was jealous and made a piece of junk CTS-V. Either way, the M3's V8 motor has I think everyone already knows that the this new V8 is lighter than the Inline-6. This M3 is just amazing, its just as I expected! Best in class, fast, handles great. A+++ CAR

The interior is very small and cramped -- and e60ish plain and cheap feeling. Nicer leather for sure, but a plain dash and loads of "platstic." Just not classy BMW style.
It feels very small inside, like recent Accords which clearly targeted female buyers. Young guys and hot chicks will probably dig it, if they can afford it. Middle-aged guys with bigger guts and bigger wallets might find it a poor fit. It feels like a car designed for someone 5'5" or less. More than anything, I was disappointed. I had dreamed of this car for some time and anxiously awaited its release. What a disappointment. The exterior is nothing spectacular and it does look a lot like an Infinity or Pontiac. In fact, having seen some of the new Pontiacs on the street, I like their look and sound much better. Obviously they're not the same caliber of car, but for less than half the $, not looking too bad. For me, the clincher was the cramped interior and "smallish" size for a car with so much weight. It seems much smaller and cramped than prior M3s -- despite the added bulk moving it into the heavyweight catagory. And its horsepower is not overwhelming for a sled that heavy. The new M3 acceration stats prove it. Solid mid-level performance stats for sure, but nothing spectacular. There are a lot of cheaper cars that are as fast or faster. And most of the expensive production performance cars (i.e.: Porche, Corvette, Viper, AMG etc) will still be smiling at you in their rear view mirrors. Plus, the new M3 loves the taste of $5 gas. Time will tell, but I put my M3 dreams back on hold, perhaps forever. At my age, I'm definately not BMWs target market for the M3. But as the power and price goes up, that demo has either got to change, or BMW's market will shrink. How many 20-30 somethings have 70 K to drop, when there are much cheaper, yet fast alternatives? I see a lot of young guys in the Pontiacs these days, and think very few midlifers are rushing in to buy the new M3. BMW targeting has either intentionally shifted to rich new markets on distant shores, or someone more than just Bangle is missing the boat. Last edited by AKFine39; 06-27-2008 at 10:43 AM. Off the chain
I have seen some tuned and customized units that are flat out art. Although I have heard they plan to drop the V8 in future models. So I would want to confirm the future direction of the M3 before the investment

M3
M should mean M...inside and out. The 3 is too small to be an M, it seems....it lacks so much of what the M5 or M6 have.

Sorry lads I'm 7 series kid. M's, yes quick but just not my personal transport. Some joker has always got M badge on his 318. Bit hard to pull off a 735 badge on a 328 with any cred.
