satellite radio/2006
I just bought a 2006 X3. Options include "satellite prep". Dealer says no way to get head unit from BMW. Other dealer told me head unit back ordered.
HELP......am addicted to Satellite radio and do not want after market stuff. |

Sat radio
If your car is prewired for sat radio, you can buy a blitzsafe adapter, which allows you to use an xm receiver that is hidden out of the way. The head unit displays all the channel and artist info. I plugged my blitzsafe adapter into the cd changer connection in the rear driver side compartment along with patching into the sharkfin antenna. It works great, and there is no visible " aftermarket" evidence. The adapter allows the bmw head unit, which is Sirius ready, to function as an XM radio.
I hope this helps. Search for Blitzsafe adapter and you should find quite a bit of info. Good Luck, Chris

I believe the list price for the Sirius module is around $500. I have read that the module has been discontinued and pending an updated module. You can buy one used if you look on Ebay...might be cheaper now because of it being discontinued.
Its a plug n play setup. The Sirius cables are wrapped in front of your NAV unit. If you have the SAT prep I am wondering if that includes the bracket below your NAV unit.

I went another way to get my satellite. I have an Iphone and use an App called Pocket Tunes. It gets all of the Sirius stations (you need to have the internet access to do this). I simply plug in my Iphone using the AUX jack and stream Sirius through the Iphone. This allows me to hear stations such as Howard Stern which do not work with the Sirius Iphone App. It works great for me!
