2009 X5/6 Recall

Not much has been announced in the way of affected VINs or MFG date, or in the fix, but looks like it might be all 2009 X5/6s.

Summary:
BMW IS RECALLING MY 2009 X5 AND X6 VEHICLES. THE REAR BRAKE DISCS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS. AS A RESULT, A REDUCTION IN BRAKING PERFORMANCE AT THE AFFECTED REAR WHEEL COULD OCCUR.

Consequence:
IN AN EXTREME CASE, THE AFFECTED REAR BRAKE DISC COULD BREAK RESULTING IN A LOSS OF BRAKING AT THAT WHEEL INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCES AND THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy:
THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED THE AGENCY WITH A REMEDY OR NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.

Just got off the phone with BMW Customer Service, the info that the rep gave me was that this affects vehicles produced between mid-May and June 1st. This may or may not be accurate, but wanted to pass it along.

Let us know when you find a bulletin from BMW. The blog is vague.

My X5 is in for a hitch today. No recall on my vin. But then again mine was built last week so I would hope they would have fixed the issue by then.
