4 cylinder engines?
Hope this doesn't count as an illicit crosspost, but I found this in the "General BMW" forum
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...57&postcount=1 Quote:
The article that's linked to says they're looking at bringing 4 cylinder gasoline engines for X1 and X3 (and 3 series) into the US. What I'd really like to see would be 4 cylinder diesels in the small SAV's, but the article only mentioned gasoline engines. Never thought I'd see this happen. Had a 4 cylinder 2002 many years ago, but I thought BMW had abandoned the 4 cylinder market in the US to go more upscale. |

Had a 'deuce back in the day. Notable for a couple of things, headgasket problems, choke problems (it was an early automatic choke-not well sorted out) and the best of all, having to stop, raise the hood, and turn on/off the heater! I was too lazy to run a new control wire. A car that equalled or bettered it was the contemporary Ford Cortina GT. A very hot little European Ford that was almost as hard to get parts for as it was for the early BMW's.

It's unlikely that the X3 will see a 4-cylinder engine. Everyone already thought the 2.5i was too slow.
BMW has suggested that any 4-cyl that comes over will be turbocharged, so don't expect 118i-like fuel consumption. |
