Question Fault Code

I think this is my first post here on the messageboard. So I am going to start out with a question. Yesterday I received my Peake R5/FCX code reader. I found out I have the following fault code : 'Functional check purge valve'. I don't have any clue what this means, since I am still in the learning process. Can someone explain to me what this means ?
I also ran the tool on my fiancee's car ('95 318ti) where I got a 'Knock control regulation' error code.
Is there anyway I could look these up in the TIS ?

Bert.

If not, they might be just errors due to minor reading by sensors outside the ok range.
