I bought the 3 cubic foot fireproof safe from Costo. It's big enough to hold a bunch of hand guns and ammo along with some hanging folders for special documents. I think I paid less than $300 for it.

Most safes will do, just make sure you bolt it to your foundation or your wall studs otherwise the theif can just pick it up and pick the lock at their leisure lol.

I have this. It's bolted down to the floor.

But, if you want to get your gun out quickly, get a biometric finger safe.

The price has gone up, but here is the modern version (mine has a dial and is not electronic).

Doesn't that depend on how big it is? I've had one dropped on my hand and I can tell you, not many thieves would be carrying that out of the house.. and certainly none without a partner.

Jever posted a link to a Security website a few weeks ago. They recommended not putting it in the Master Bedroom closet, among other things.

This guy took this concept to the extreme. He implanted an RFID chip into his hand so he can open his safe just by being in proximity of the sensor.

I wouldn't shoot at her, just in the air a few times to get the point through her.

Since it never hurts to plan for the future, something like this might be a good idea:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=140853035

Modular design makes it versatile, you can put it in a closet where no one knows it`s there. Do you have access to the basement if the safe will be located on the first floor ? Bolting ot to the floor is always a good idea....

+1 on bolting to the floor. also, you have to remember that most flame-retardant safes are only barely flame retardant. stuff inside will definitely overheat and melt if the safe itself doesn't cave in first. if you want something really beefy and will truly survive a devastating house fire with everything inside in tact, you'll be needing to spend a couple grand, probably on a custom job. it'd be a good idea if you have any other valuables you'd want to lock up as well. if all you care about is keeping sticky fingers off your guns, then a simple costco one would do.

why is the title of this thread "safe's" and not "safes"? is your family surname 'safe' or something and you're inquiring about safe's safes?

The Safe family are shopping for a safe, in the hope that the Safe`s safe will keep them safe.... (everything clear now ?)

you need a train air horn...I am totally getting one...

and i don't believe it is legal to have a gun in a compartment that is actually attached to your car...ie. console (as pictured) or glove box..

the CA rule list is soooo long

i am still thinking about driving up to WA state and getting my grandpa's old 1911, but I need to know all the transport rules across the states...ugh
