The price is right. So is the color combination.

Why beater? Stuck up M driver. My 2.8 is a great car and far from a beater. Although I do beat on it regularly. $21K for 29K does seem like a decent deal

I think Jon's reference for "beater" means something you can drive everyday so your other, more precious vehicle (whatever it may be) can sit in the garage and not be abused. By no means when we say "beater" does it mean a neglected or worthless car. Heck, I'd love to have a Z3C to drive around everyday so I don't have to put more miles on my 323Ci...

I only posted it because it would make a heck of a nice 3rd or 4th car. Or prep it for track-only.

Hey, I take it seriously. I think AndyM's car is better looking than mine. If I could sell my GTI, I'd replace it with a 2.8 or a 3.0 coupe.

Except for the all-wood console, quite sweet.

You might be able to get used to the wood. My 97 2.8 had wood. With tanin leather, it's not so bad.

All 99 non-M coupes had either wood (standard) or graphit trim. No plastic.

It's relative, in our case, the 99 M Rdstr is the beater.

I'm "considering" selling my 99 2.8 Coupe and pick up an M Roadster but I'll probably wait until this Winter when then Roadster's are languishing on the lots.
I actually think the 2.8 is better looking than MY M Coupe (uh.. because it has a rear OEM spoiler -disclaimer- which the previous owner installed)
2.8 seats are much more comfy for long distance drives and leather is nicer. Tough decision which Coupe to eventually sell... but the lack of a convertible for the first time in 20 years is sort of depressing me.

I thought that aside from the shaping of the cushions (bulges vs smooth), the seats were identical.

In my case my 2002 M Coupe is the daily "beater". Then again I don't have anything else to drive. I do wash and wax frequently and cringe every time there's a truck or debris on the road and cry for her every time she gets another chip...

Seat in my 2.8 Coupe (Jon M can correct/add to this) I think the leather is a "thicker" Nappa than some/ my M Sport seat. Second pic is my M seat. I think other two tone seats may have better leather than the "Oregon leather" inserts.

Shape and materials are different.

When you are talking specifically about beige leather seats, the Z3 coupe has better quality leather than the M coupe. The Z3C has 100% beige nappa, the MC has only portions of beige Nappa. The rest is dot/oregon.

3rd or 4th car? I could easily live with that Coupe as my only car. Maybe add an E30 325is as a beater/track car/winter beater.

The color combo is dead on... but I'm not digging the wood trim. But that can be fixed in a variety of ways.
