Is his line of work it wouldn't surprise me if he did.
P.S. I was wondering why this thread kept popping back up on top. |

About a year ago I had to do the hard counter clockwise turn and ever since then the manual open button (under trunk edge) does not work. Any idea what part may need replacing?

Electrical trunk entry Fail
This thread had me laughing most of the way through it, but I haven't found an answer to my particular question.
I'm driving a 2001 525i, and I cannot get the trunk to open using any of the electrical means. Yes I could use the key manually, but it's getting on my nerves when I forget to unlock the car before using the key... causing the alarm to go off. The trunk lock is in the vertical position, and my central locking system is working just fine. But the trunk does not respond to my remote entry, nor the button below the steering wheel. Any ideas?

Check out what bluebee writes in her thread above...and do a search on that topic. It's been discussed enough that you should run into good DIY info...if nothing else...do an advanced search for threads by bluebee on this topic...she's great with pics and notation/instructions.

I'll dive into that tomorrow and see where it leads. Then I'll post my findings (or just links) here in this thread to disperse the info a little more

Dude, you've save my ass.
1. I don't have the key for the boot (lost my master) 2. I took off the negative cable from the battery while I was working on my car ![]() 3. while working on the car, it started raining so I closed the boot ![]() 4. without power I could not open the boot ![]() So I took your advice on the 9V and got my self a battery and a couple of wires to wire up via the cig lighter plug. At first it wouldn't work because I didn't know which is positive and which is negative in the cig lighter plug, but got it working eventually. **** started to light up (ie. security led and something else) and so I quickly jumped out (just in case I ran out of power due to the system draining it) of driver seat and open up the boot and pause for a moment thinking to myself that I will never ever close the boot again with the battery disconnected. It's one of those stupid thing where you don't have access to the jump starter battery or friends that could help out with spare batteries etc. Thanks again. Quote:

I just saw this and agree with Q. Since the wiring loom has 13 wires, some of which can break or touch others, lots of weird things can happen - especially to the trunk latch and license plate lights.
In my case, NOTHING would open the trunk except the key manually. - Not the remote unlock on the key specific for the trunk - Not the four-door unlock by pressing twice on the door unlock button - Not the unlock button on the console - Not even the handle in the outside of the trunk itself All that was fixed when I repaired my trunk wiring loom as shown in the aforementioned thread. - Trunklid open, check licplate light, and other trunk wiring loom woes (1) (2) (3) |

I'm not sure what's more entertaining––whether this thread was started in the first place, or that it's gone on for three pages over a period of a year and a half.

Simple solution.
It's only 1 page for me (as are most threads). Simply set your posts-per-page to a big number. ![]() Then, almost all threads are a single page. Works for me.

I'm not sure if the guy who can't open his trunk electrically has answered that he has checked/fixed his wiring loom; but, if not, that's the primo suspect!
So, it bears repeating the relevant links: - Trunklid open, check licplate light, and other trunk wiring loom woes (1) (2) (3) If just (the wrong) one of these 13 wires are cut, there is absolutely no way you will open the trunk electrically; and you can forget opening it manually with the trunk handle too (ask me how I know). BTW, two epic threads are worth perusing if you have the basic manual operation problem: - How to open the trunk manually when you have a dead 12v car battery (1) (2) Last edited by bluebee; 03-07-2011 at 04:45 PM. |
