Driving the new 550i GT - my impressions
I spent a few days with a 550i GT and it is a very impressive car.
It does feel larger than a 7er but just a little. The interior is very close to the 7. The rear is very roomy and the hatch/trunk is useful. A complete write-up with pictures is here.

Jonathan, I can't comment on the driving, but on the rest I must agree. I went to an intro last night at Autobahn here in Fort Worth. As usual the car looks even better in person. It does not look like a hatchback. The rear is significantly lower and more user friendly than the X6. I even think the funky category BMW puts it in, the Progressive Activity Sedan, is completely appropriate.
In short I really feel like this is just about the perfect upscale family sedan! I cannot get over the versatility of the car and that it is so well matched with sportiness, luxury and comfort. The trunk/liftgate system is just great. When closed the cargo area is completely sealed off and isolated from the passenger compartment. When fully open it has amazing utility. The rear seats are pretty much fantastic. It would be an incredibly comfortable car for two couples to take on a weekend or week long trip. The rear passengers would be just as comfortable as the driver and front passenger (and you wouldn't have to "relegate" the wives to the rear seat with the husbands up front, unless you wanted too) and the cargo volume is large enough to carry everyone's luggage with no problem whatsoever. Or for soccer mom and dad they can put all the kids gear, even the stroller, in the back with ease AND executive dad or mom can cart clients around during the week in the lap of comfort. I think it is the perfect car for Realtors. They can take their clients house hunting in comfort and they can throw all their for sale signs and such in the cargo area. Anyway, that's a little of my .02. I really loved this car.
