DIY - Logic7 R&R Easy as pie 745i E65

Hey all...
Like many BMW owners with Logic7, I had experienced my left Under-seat Sub-woofer sounding like crap and no sound out of the left rear door speaker one day.
I took the car to a audio shop specializing in BMW's and he said the sub-woofer was blown and would have to troubleshoot the left rear door speaker. All in all he said it would be around 2 grand to fix.
Well before I gave the car to him I thought I would give it my own shot.
Going on his word I replaced the sub-woofer with a new one and no difference in sound. That job wasn't hard but it was a pain in the butt.
I then goggled my problem and found out that many BMW owners had experienced the same thing and that it seemed that it was actually the Logic7 amp. (I Later found Bimmerfest) So I thought I give that a try.
Well, I put in the new Logic7 amp today and everything works like a champ. Great sound.
The hardest pat of the job was taking my golf clubs and junk out of the trunk to start work on the amp R&R.
All you will need is a pair of Pliers, Flat and Philips screw drive and about 45 minutes.
This is how I did it with no problems of any kind.
!. Remove everything from your trunk
2. Remove the covers over the spare and the spare tire.
3. With Flat head screw driver remove fasteners (pry up a bit and then remove by hand) for the trunk latch cover and then left side trunk wall cover. About 9 in all.
4. With Philips screw drive remove two small screws that hold down left side tie-down point.
5. By hand pull trunk latch cover off and left side trunk wall cover.
6. The amp is in full access then. Pull out two retaining latches.
7. Unplug FOC (Fiber Optics Cable) and wire connector buy hand.
8. Installation is the reverse.

I wouldn't doubt that the Logic7 amp is the problem for most speaker fidelity issues.

Cost

I forgot to put this in...
I was able to return the sub-woofer and the amp I bought used (Tested good and sold with 30 day warranty) for $650.
A lot cheaper then the dealer or a audio shop....
Any questions shoot me an email to coug60@live.com

So where did u get the amp? I get noise from the rear doors speakers n from the main console speaker. Plus not to much bass from the subwoofers. I thought to replace the amp to but i was affraid that the car was going to need programming. Any other details about this?

I found a place called Bavarian Auto Recycling Inc
The apparently buy used and damaged BMW's and part them out.
There number is 800.726.4269 or 916.635.4269. Use extension 611 Guys name is George Thompson. They have everything for about half the price of a new one and you get a small warranty.
As far as replacing the amp, it really is easy. I didn't have any fault issues or reprogramming needed after the R&R. I just replaced it. No disconnecting the battery or anything.
There is is only two connectors on the amp, one wire connector (all speaker connections and two pins on it for power) and the fiber connector.
Believe me, not complicated at all. Now that Ive done it, doing it again would take about 20 minutes.
Let me know how it turns out for you.

Since this may help in troubleshooting by providing a way to isolate ASK (audio system kontroller) issues from Logic 7 amp issues, you can find a wiring / speaker diagram in my flickr stuff here (see the original / full size version here).

Well i think its my amp. the ask unit i replaced it cuz w a new 1 cuz the cd wasnt working. So i think my amp doesnt work. The subwoofers work cuz i can feel n hear them but theres no bass. If i turn the L7 up or down its the same. Straight sound w no bass. So i think its the amp.

I paid $650.00 for the amp and like I said it comes with a warranty. A lot better then 1500.00 for a new one at the dealer.
The only problem you might run into is that the amp is a very popular item, (that tells you something about Logic7) so you might have to wait a little while to get one .
I was on a waiting list for about two weeks before mine came in.
Good luck.

crackling sound '04 745LI

I was getting a static sound from one speaker which would never show up at dealer. Now that warranty is off at 80K, it has spread to all speakers at different times. The dealer says it is the radio and not the amp and can be replaced for $2100. I like your cost better if it will correct the problem.

Well i have static from the rear doors speakers n the center console. So my single cd(ask unit) wasnt working so i thought to replace it so i did thinking it was the ask unit that was doin that. I put a new ask unit n same results. The i did the bus reset n it kind of worked. But the static was still there but this time very low. N i get no bass from the subs (the subs work) so i think its the amp. I mean its deff the amp cuz what else can it be? I dont know what kind of experience u guys had ??!!

Simple fix to minimize/eliminate the speaker crackling.

Set the Logic7 setting to exactly 1 bar, not off, not all the way up, but 1 bar.
