Front end looks like a 3 series, rear lights are from the Nissan G series. The side profile is nice, definite improvement. Much prefer the edgy aggressive design of the E60, stood out from the crowd. Glad my E60 lease isn't up for awhile, except for the fact about every 3rd car around here is a 5er.

I love how they went back to the e39 interior layout...the e60 has grown on me, but the new F10 is hot! Can't wait to see it with the sport package and bigger wheels, it's gonna be sick!

I dislike the taillights. I don't hate the headlights, but they're bland, and I loved the E60 headlights. My biggest problem is the "folded over" crease of the beltline. That was always my least favorite thing about the E90.
I like that the center stack is angled to the driver. I like that a raised dash has replaced the "double hump." I dislike that the bar of leather trim flanking one side of the gearshift area has been moved from passenger to driver side. Very very much prefer the E60 exterior to the F10 exterior, slightly prefer the F10 interior to the E60 interior. Definitely agree because a.) this is often true of BMWs, b.) this is REALLY true of the F01, c.) bimmerpost has some videos up in which it looks much better than the static photos

very nice. the wheels suck. and i haven't fallen in love with the hood creases yet (although in time i suspect i will). it also looks like the back seat is downright enormous (a good thing). i suspect this will be my next car. but i'm still very much in love with my e39, so it might be a few years.

Don't get me wrong - this will be my next car.....but:
I think the rear is underwhelming. I like the front, until I realized where the hood line ended. Looks kind of strange. The interior looks fabulous. Looks like they finally moved the cup holders. That photo of the different generations of 5's is awesome. Kind of strange that the E60 doesn't have a moon roof though - I didn't think they even made them without one ![]() Great photos, can't wait to own one! |

I'm a little sad too. I tend to come down on the 'it's a bit too conservative' side of the argument, too.
The E60 design was OUT THERE. Perhaps in the current climate, BMW did not want, or feel the need, to do that again. Perhaps right now being conservative is best for their business. To me, the E60 represented both stellar performance and unique design. The image it gave me was "I drive something different." The image was not due to the brand, alone. I don't see how I'm going to get that from the F10. |

I see it a blend of 3 series and 7 series. Someway it looks like a magnified 3 and sometimes a shrunk 7 series. It definitely has lost the uniqueness of E60. Overall it is a nice looking car. Of course, all bets are not in until seeing it in person.
I guess this the theme of 5 series this generation. GT is like a blend of 7 and X6. Sedan is 3 and 7.

I'm really impressed. I definitely like the look. The E60 took some time to grow on me but this one looks great right out of the box. I also agree that this should outsell the MB E class by a good margin. If I actually get a sedan next this one is on the short list!

+1. Also, I found the following quote quite intriguing from the C/D text:
"All three engines will be available with rear- or all-wheel drive." For those of us in snowy/mountainous areas, the combination of a turbocharged V-8 and AWD is compelling. I'll be in the market for a sedan to replace my Cayman in the second half of 2010, and intend to try both the new 5 and the 7 with xDrive. |

Gorgeous exterior, resembles the 7 but better proportions. The interior is rather conservative, quite similar to the E60's; my only concern is affordability, given the weakening dollar vs. Euro, it could be much more costly once it becomes generally available.

Finally... after owning three 5-series sedans (prior to the E60), I can come back to BMW!

I LOVE it
Anyone deciding wether to spring for e60 right now, or wait, it think the choice is very clear!! This also makes the new 7er less inticing!

I asked in another thread, I ask again... why is the center counsel so oriented toward the passenger? At first I thought the image was reversed! But now looking at more pics, is that right?? everything is right about this car except that... seriously.

All the ones I've looked (including the official ones at www.bmw.com) have the center console tilted to face the driver, not the passenger. According to the BMW official PR, it's 7*.

The design isn't that conservative, it's just that it's similar to the 7 and 3, which have all adopted the flame surfacing design philosophy of Bangle quite well, lots of convex/concave to show light and shadow.
If you put F10 and E60 side by side, E60's surfaces are relatively flat. To me, what E60 shows is softer flowing lines (which at angles from rear quarter view seems a bit fat), while F10 has more tout shapes to show tension and athleticism. If F10 came out after E39, it would be rejected also.

clearly designers listened
to those "diehards" who felt that the former version (is it E39?) was better looking than the E60 they got their revenge. I think it is obvious that the design team went towards a more conservative, "traditional" BMW look. I like what i see in pics although the front is not very inspiring. the back is great, i think they hit a home run there. from the side the car looks very sharp. i am hoping in person it looks even better. count me in. not for a couple of model years though. let them work out the kinks!

SO damn beautiful. One of these will definitely replace my X5 at some point. It needs to stay debadged though!

It does have a lot of styling cues from the new 7. I am VERY thankful that does not include the grossly oversized kidneys that are on the new 7.
Overall the styling is pretty vanilla. BMW was very careful not to offend anyone this time around.

All I can say is wow!. I love the new 5. Its almost like a 3 but then again I love the 3s looks. I can't wait for some reviews on the 4.4 turbo model. There will no longer (or at least shouldn't) be any argument on which is better, the 535 or the 550. The gas mileage from the new V-8 is extremely impressive.

The BMW.de webseite has many pictures and videos. After watching them, I feel that although it's a shade conservative, it's a step in the right direction. It's definitely something I could come to like after awhile. The back has me a bit puzzled but overall the design flows well.
Knowing BMW, they're going to put unsightly (and less safe) red LEDs for the rear turn signals. It's great that BMW still kept in mind the importance of reducing emissions and consumption. The 520d will be a new more efficient design and will still have EfficientDynamics which should make it popular with folks in Europe and me as well. Unfortunately, it looks like the 550i will only be available in the 8-speed automatic, but all others will have a standard 6MT in other markets. I'd love to attach the Pricing list and equipment for the German market but it's too large a file. 523i: 41.900 € combined cons: 7,6 l/100km (31 US mpg) 528i: 45.400 € 535i: 50.300 € 550i: 70.500 € 10,4l/100km (22,6 US mpg) 520d: 39.950 € 5,0 l/100km (47 US mpg) *available in 3rd quarter 2010. 525d: 44.700 € 6,2 l/100km (38 US mpg) 530d: 49.300 € 6.3 l/100km (37,3 US mpg) All the models meet the EU5 emissions standard. Major standard equipment on all models include rain sensor, front foglamps, alloy wheels, part-electric seats (full electric on 550i), cloth upholstery (Leather Dakota on 550i), and dual zone Climate automatic. Prices inclusive 19% VAT. Last edited by AzNMpower32; 11-25-2009 at 09:18 AM. |
